The Role & Key Responsibilities
As a Police Enquiry Officer, you will perform a role on our policing front line, helping members of the public across Sussex reporting incident and crimes. We aim to respond to each contact in a timely way and contribute to making our communities feel safe, by inspiring trust and confidence in the Police.
As a Police Enquiry Officer you must be able to multitask. You may be dealing with a member of the public face to face with their enquiry one minute, and the next you may be speaking to someone on the phone or via email. You will also be using various computer systems. You will need to be able to work and make decisions under pressure. You will need to have high levels of resilience due to the nature of the enquires we deal with. These can be distressing or upsetting at times.
You will be employed on a mobile contract. This means you will have a base station, but you will be required to travel and work from other Police Stations within the hub. This is a good opportunity to work with different teams and have a change of environment. This requires you to be flexible, this can happen at short notice where your shift time and location may be changed.
The location for the Police Enquiry officer post will be at:- Crowborough Hub, supporting Uckfield, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill. Travel between locations will be required.
FOLLOWING ON FROM YOUR INITIAL TRAINING YOU WILL CONTINUE WITH ON THE JOB TRAINING WITH A COACH, WITHIN YOUR DEDICATED OR NEIGHBOURING HUB.
SHIFT PATTERNS
STAFF WOULD BE EXPECTED TO WORK A ROTATING SHIFT PATTERN BETWEEN MONDAY AND SATURDAY 0900-1700 (THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY PUBLIC OR BANK HOLIDAYS).
Key Responsibilities
To act as the primary point of contact to all visitors to the Police station. To act as a conduit between Police Officers and the public. Accurately assessing and recording incidents, ensuring the prompt resolution of enquiries through effective communication whilst maintaining the highest professional and ethical standards.
To Identify the purpose and nature of each contact by asking questions to elicit sufficient and relevant information to enable an accurate and timely assessment of appropriate means of resolution.
To provide a proactive, customer focused service to all enquiries made via the Front Officer whether in person, by phone or online in a compassionate and highly professional manner in accordance with the Sussex Police Policing Strategy and the Victim Code.
Skills & Experience
QUALIFICATIONS
GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Good verbal communications skills with the ability to listen to others.
Ability to breakdown problems into component parts and determine appropriate action.
Ability to communicate difficult messages to the public effectively and sensitively.
Decision making skills. The ability to think laterally and be able to creatively resolve incidents.
Proven ability in problem solving.
Ability to produce accurate written reports or other documents.
Level of confidence in using standard IT packages, systems and/or databases to fulfil role requirements.
Demonstrate Personal Responsibility, planning own work with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Work effectively in a team to achieve shared objectives, demonstrating an awareness of individual differences and providing support as required.
