About us 

Ocean Energy Pathway (OEP) is a not-for-profit organisation on a mission to accelerate the global clean energy transition by unlocking the immense potential of offshore wind power. We do that by delivering programmes in new markets that build effective collaboration, engage and educate key stakeholders, and offer structured technical assistance to support governments, industry, and civil society to fast-track the deployment of sustainable offshore wind projects.

Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing, impact-driven organisation playing a pivotal role in the continued growth of offshore wind and the global energy transition. 

The ideal candidate has brilliant research, writing, and stakeholder management skills and enthusiasm for clean energy. Candidates should be self-driven and able to work independently in a predominantly remote-working environment, with some in-person meetings in London. Successful candidates will have a solid background in the energy industry, politics, government, think tanks, research or civil society organisations, or in a related sector.

As the Policy Associate, you will be responsible for a diverse portfolio encompassing policy and research, project management, and stakeholder management. As part of a global, multidisciplinary team, you will take on diverse tasks and responsibilities in projects of varied complexity and scale. Candidates are expected to have some demonstrable experience in the renewable energy sector, including an understanding of the policy dynamics specific to wind energy. 

Reports to: You will report to the Senior Manager, Global Strategy and Projects, and will interact with the broader, matrixed team across strategic and operational functions. 

Key Responsibilities

1. Policy and Research (40%)
a. Lead research products and written briefs for the senior team, drawing on qualitative desk-based research with the ability to direct and interpret quantitative research, and understand the fundamentals of key energy policy issues.
b. Present information and data to internal and external stakeholders, such as by preparing presentations and speaking points.
c. Provide analysis on global policy developments related to energy and the broader policy environment in our key markets, such as in the Asia-Pacific and Latin America regions.
d. Build on your domain knowledge in wind energy, including at the intersection of offshore wind energy and nature, contributing to OEP’s core mission to scale the sustainable growth of the sector.

2. Project Management (40%) 

a. Lead and support the project management of several projects with a global remit, such as OEP’s new Offshore Wind Resource Library platform.
b. Support the creation of an impact assessment strategy, such as a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Framework for OEP’s global programs.
c. Support the project management of several country-based projects, including coordinating global teams and meetings, and managing the daily cadence of project check-ins.

3. Stakeholder Management (20%)

a. Provide professional stakeholder management support, including through mapping stakeholders and proactively identifying collaborations in industry, civil society, and government, as well as supportive functions like sending invitations and coordinating meetings.
b. Support the team in delivering the fundraising and grant strategy, including through mapping, tracking, and writing briefs.

Skills and Qualifications

● A minimum of 3-6 years of professional experience in relevant sectors like the renewable energy industry, politics or government, think tanks, and consultancy roles.
● A good understanding of the wind energy fundamentals across technical, market, and policy aspects. 
● A good understanding of the relevant stakeholders in the renewable energy field, across the private, public, and civil society sectors.
● Brilliant research and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to various audiences. 
● Numerate and comfortable engaging with datasets and simple analytical tools and techniques desirable.
● Excellent organisational and project management skills.
● Ability to communicate in a professional and polished manner with external stakeholders.
● Fluent in English; proficiency in another language is an asset
