Policy & Standards Lead

Our strategy is driven by our purpose to help our customers live sustainably, simply, and affordably. To help us achieve this, we are looking for a talented Standards & Policy Lead to join our Conduct, Governance & Risk team in BGB.

Working as part of the BGB Conduct, Governance & Risk team, The Policy & Standards Lead will be responsible for maintaining, frameworks and policy to ensure compliance with our regulatory landscape delivering good customer outcomes.  This role requires a strong understanding of regulatory principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Accountabilities

  • Support the design, development & Implementation of frameworks to manage conduct & compliance in British Gas Business.
  • Lead the review and updating of policies and frameworks in alignment with our applicable regulations.
  • Collaborate across all functions to deliver timely policies and frameworks to ensure consistency of customer/business compliance with our regulatory obligations.
  • Work closely with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure policy reviews are comprehensive and address BGB’s regulatory obligations.
  • Implement standards for delivering good customer outcomes across all regulatory frameworks to deliver good customer outcomes.
  • Maintain a record of associated KPIs and reporting to assure the standards across the business.
  • Support the ongoing production, development and review of Key Business policies and frameworks.
  • Support the production and ongoing development of the AP Handbooks
  • Ensure that policies are clear, accurate, understood and communicated across all business areas.
  • The design and production of Management Information (MIS) – compiling data and producing regular reporting, as required by senior management and business forums, to inform Business compliance.
  • Managing and maintaining the documentation for policy and standards across our business.
  • Maintain a suite of KPI’s and reporting against our policies, standards and frameworks.
  • Compile reporting and management information for governance forums.
  • Maintain a record of all decisions/sign-off made by the AP or RP in relation to policies and framework standards.
  • Act as a point of contact for all policy and framework related information.
  • Collaborate across all functions to deliver business policies, standards and frameworks to ensure consistency of customer/business outcomes.
  • Work closely with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure policies are comprehensive and address BGB’s specific regulatory landscape.
  • Conduct regular reviews and updating of policies and frameworks to identify areas of improvement and ensure consistent delivery of customer outcomes.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining documentation related to policies, standards and frameworks.
  • Proactive identification where Policy, Standard and frameworks are not being adhered to and identify plans in line with business owners to mitigate potential customer/business detriment.
  • Ensuring that effective communication and stakeholder engagement is maintained.

Experience

  • Knowledge and experience of the energy industry preferable.
  • Experience of working across a wide group of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable track record of advising and challenging stakeholders to achieve conduct and compliance objectives.
  • Good understanding of the strategic objectives of business unit and the ability to adapt and align to wider business priorities.
  • Experience in a pressured environment, with good time management and organisational skills.
  • Experience in multi-tasking, being able to navigate tasks & prioritise effectively.

Competencies

  • Possess a good understanding of the energy sector, including familiarity with relevant policies and frameworks.
  • Exhibit a strong interest in business processes and their impact on customer needs.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills to identify areas for improvement and drive process optimisation.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
  • Display effective interpersonal, communication, and influencing abilities.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders across a range of functional teams.
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to achieve business objectives.
  • Adapt quickly to changes, embrace ambiguity, and provide guidance and support the wider team.

  • Track record of prioritising plans to manage and deliver work effectively according to wider business priorities and strategy.
  • Work efficiently and effectively under pressure while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
