About the Port

Our port is located at Tarbert, Isle of Harris, HS3 3DG.

The earliest start time would be 06:00 and the latest finish would be 20:30.

Your Role

As a member of the Port team, you will have a key role to play in ensuring that we deliver an amazing experience to all our customers, whether they are islanders, visitors from the UK or overseas or commercial customers.

You will also have key safety and security duties - traffic management, as well as making sure our ports meet our customers' expectations by undertaking various tidy up duties


Day to Day Working

You will work a varied shift pattern, which includes weekends, bank holidays and evenings. You may be required to start work early each morning and some shifts will mean you will finish after the last vessel has set sail for the evening.


Key Responsibilities

Ticket Sales, Printing and Distribution:

  • Process ticket sales accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist customers in selecting appropriate tickets for our services.
  • Operate ticketing systems and equipment for printing and distributing tickets.

Customer Interaction:

  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and offering assistance.
  • Communicate ticketing information, policies, and procedures to customers.
  • Assisting customers with amending/cancelling bookings and arranging accommodation/onward travel when service is disrupted.

Cash Handling:

  • Handle cash, credit card transactions, and issue receipts.

Data Entry:

  • Accurately enter customer and ticketing information into databases.
  • Record and relay sailing statistics.

Other duties:

  • Control of passengers and vehicles embarking and disembarking from vessels by giving clear and concise direction to all.
  • Car marshalling duties - including validation of tickets.
  • Use of handheld 2-way radios.
  • Emergency requirements 'out-of-hours'
  • Any other duties required by the Supervisor or Port Manager.

You'll receive 37 days (pro rata) annual holiday entitlement (which includes bank holidays). You will be provided with full uniform and PPE as well as excellent training, development, and good career progression.

You will also receive unsociable hours payment of 12.5% for shifts which start before 08:00 and/or end after 19:00. The basic hourly rate will be paid at single time for every hour up to 40 hours per week, every hour above this will be paid at 1.75 times the basic hourly rate.
