Job description

Portfolio Manager responsible for providing clear leadership and direction, whilst working closely and directly with clients, key stakeholders and the internal team. You will have the opportunity to impact strategic business relationships and the responsibility to sustain and grow work with existing and new clients. You will be responsible for business development activities pertaining to the selected portfolio (both current and target clients) whilst actively supporting the delivery of current projects within your portfolio.

The role will be a combination of project delivery (billable) and sales activities (overhead). The Portfolio Delivery Manager will ensure there is a balance between the two depending on workload demand. Manage and maintain external stakeholder, client relationships and networks to identify opportunities and potential clients to position the company competitively in the market.

Resources

  • Ensure all projects within the Portfolio are adequately resourced (aligning with company targets of PL/NPL)
  • Identify and leadrecruitment requirements for all projects within the Portfolio. Interview and lead on the mobilisation.
  • Align resource forecasting and update forecasting across the portfolio projects. Review future demand and align with recruitment/development requirements. Liaise with the other Portfolio Managers also to fulfil demand requirements.
  • Resource management and movements across the portfolio. Managing people movements in line with Team Leaders and Portfolio Managers according to resource demands.
  • Focus on growing the team in addition to; manage, mentor and coach staff and team members to develop internal expertise and to ensure that staff are adequately equipped to perform

Delivery

  • Mobilising projects, from building the team to ensuring that the programme, dashboard and project governance procedures are set up and followed (flow chart, trackers, reporting schedules).
  • Point of escalation for the Project Manager, oversee change management and general delivery of scope.
  • Responsible for quality of delivery, provide guidance to the project team on delivery strategy depending on the nature of works.
  • Attend internal and external project meetings.

Sales

  • Identify areas of growth and pursue these in line with company strategy. Ensure that the next phases of projects are secured, ensuring continuity of team where applicable and pipeline projects.
  • Represent us on client meetings to discuss future packages of work, engage with clients to understand the requirements, parameters for delivery and the scope for our involvement.
  • Develop proposals (or oversee the development) in line with client requirements. Ensure the timely delivery of proposals, ensuring the proposed works are realistic, achievable and do not put us at risk. (ensure all proposals that get submitted meet the minimum margin requirements).
  • Manage the sales/proposal/mobilisation/delivery process end-to-end.

Commercial

  • Responsible for checking, signing and ensuring contracts are received, following the completion of the proposal/sales governance process.(ensure that the contract is aligned to the agreed terms and conditions)
  • Chase Purchase Orders after signed contracts have been completed, ensuring that these land promptly in line with the planned proposal timelines, and match the amount in the contract and proposal.
  • Review project dashboards, resource forecasts and manage these in line with the portfolio and company strategy. Provide feedback to project managers.
  • Accountable for the margin that each project makes, managing this period on period.
  • Agreeing rates of resources and ensuring these are communicated across the portfolio to ensure consistency.
  • Reviewing Applications for Payment drafted by the project managers, ensuring that the project invoices following our and the client governance processes. Checking costs and rates are correct.

Essential Criteria:

  • Industry related Degree or equivalent
  • Significant and proven experience in a consultancy, construction, infrastructure, or client organisation delivering projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure within time constraints
  • Proven ability to build trust, openness and understanding of multi-discipline teams, ensuring strong communication and collaboration
  • Possesses capability to confront issues and achieve required outcomes using diplomacy and negotiation, but also being assertive where required.
  • Ability to lead and win new work, including contribution of high-quality content.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops with senior client and consultant professionals
  • Experience in managing complex projects, bids and proposals
