Job description

We are seeking a candidate with a background in neuroscience, engineering, biophysics, or biology to work in the group of Dr. Marco Tripodi. The candidate should have a PhD in Neuroscience or a related subject within 6 months of applying. The ideal candidate will have experience in either in vivo imaging, electrophysiology, genomics or behavioural studies in animal models and a strong interest in applying these methods to investigate the relation between motor and cognitive control in rodents. Good programming skills (e.g. Python) are desirable, but good technical support is present in the lab and we can provide training opportunities for candidates interested in improving their coding abilities. Candidates with a quantitative/theoretical background, such as in computational neuroscience or bioinformatics, and an interest in expanding their experimental skills are strongly invited to apply, as training is available. Creative thinking and intellectual independence are paramount. One of the main tasks of the candidate will be to characterize the contribution of canonical motor circuits to spatial cognition by interfacing imaging/electrophysiological methods with genomics and behavioural paradigms in mice. The project falls under the recently awarded ERC Consolidator grant (UKRI-converted) entitled “Kinetic Cognition”. A collaborative, open minded and friendly attitude is essential. The candidate is expected to work closely with other members of the lab offering support related to her/his field of competence to the ongoing research as well as conduct an independent research project. We are looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist for our 3-year Career Development Fellowship/ Postdoctoral Training Scheme. This is a training and development position suitable for you if you have recently completed your doctoral studies, or you are looking to move into a new research discipline and/or need to further develop your research skills. Working with our world class scientists you will be working in an Institute renowned for its excellent scientific facilities and high-quality research. The LMB has an inclusive and collaborative working culture and you will be based in our state-of-the-art building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We have on-site parking, cycle enclosures and excellent public transport links to the site. You will be able to access our range of excellent benefits including a staff restaurant with roof terrace, on-site nursery, sports and social facilities. You will be eligible to join our defined benefit pension scheme with an employer contribution of 16%, holiday entitlement of 40.5 days per annum (including bank holidays and privilege days) and a generous employee discount scheme. We are also committed to providing training and development opportunities including support towards role-related qualifications. The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) which brings together nine research and innovation partners, more information can be found at www.ukri.org and www.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk. This role qualifies for endorsement by UKRI for a UK Global Talent Visa, for which the successful applicant is likely to be eligible to apply. Immigration costs (visa and health surcharge) can be reclaimed from UKRI after taking up the post (terms and conditions apply). If you are unable to apply online please contact us at recruit@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk. We actively support equality, diversity, and inclusion. We therefore particularly welcome minority ethnic and disabled candidates to apply for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented. We are a disability inclusive employer and encourage disabled people to apply for this role.
