We are looking for registered health and social care professionals who are looking for part time/ad-hoc work to come and join our team of Practice Assessors. The post holder will undertake activities in connection with practice learning including; supporting learners in practice, visiting link areas and conducting practice learning environment audits. A key focus of the role will be to conduct practice learning assessment of learners within placements and simulated practice learning. The post holder should be registered with a professional body, have experience of supporting learners within practice and working within their field of practice. We will also consider applicants who have recently retired but they need to be registered with their professional body.

Responsible to: Associate Professor Placements and Work Based Learning

Job Purpose:
  • To undertake associated activities in connection with practice learning including; supporting learners in practice, visiting link areas and conducting practice learning environment audits.
  • To teach and support students by adopting a tailored learner-centred approach and being committed to contributing towards delivery of a first-class learner experience.
  • Working alongside Academic and Technical staff, to have a supported role in designing and delivering of innovative and challenging learning experiences within simulation environments.
  • To be a team-player and contribute to the wider work of the team
  • Practice an inclusive approach and support building an inclusive university community where people can be themselves

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:
  • Support academic & technical staff, to providing advice and recommendations on how to enhance the delivery of innovative and challenging learning experiences within simulation environments.
  • To undertake associated activities in connection with practice learning including; supporting students in practice and visiting link areas.
  • To contribute to the learner experience – demonstrating an awareness of the need for ‘customer focus’ in respect of resolving issues.
  • To engage with business and professional networks to promote teaching and learning and research in a professional context.
  • To support learners in supervising placements, learning in practice, internships and work-related activities.
  • With support, plan and deliver the curriculum using appropriate media, including the use of IT.
  • Provide effective feedback, support and guidance to students, which promotes improvement of performance.
  • To maintain and foster the high reputation of the University in practice partner settings.
    • To work flexible hours as agreed with Line Manager.
    • To keep up to date with new technologies and developments within specialism and other related industries.
    • Comply with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; and Equality and Diversity requirements and legislation in all working practices.
    • Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
  • Assist with undertaking practice learning associated activities in connection with the courses taught including, practical skills assessment and feedback.
  • With support, design and deliver high quality, innovative and challenging learning experiences, using current theory and practice together in lively debate
  • To collaborate with colleagues across health and social to provide a customer-focussed service, playing a proactive role in improving the learner Experience
  • To deliver pastoral care and support at risk/resuming students in practice, including signposting students to the appropriate pastoral support services where appropriate.
  • Assist the Technicians to effectively plan and resource equipment for use within the simulation-based learning/assessments.
  • To be responsible for carrying out risk assessments or recognising and reporting potential health and safety risks for the working environment, ensuring that it is clean and safe and kept to a professional standard.
  • To be responsible for taking remedial action where appropriate – e.g. dealing with instances of poor conduct (students) or reviewing practice learning environments when concerns are raised by students or regulatory bodies.
  • To be responsible for providing advice and guidance to support practice learning providers in providing an excellent learning experience
  • Ensuring that the practice learning environmental audit and any action plans are completed and reviewed in a timely manner.
  • To ensure that all activities are undertaken within the prescribed rules of Health & Safety and good practice as set by the University.
