A specialist SEMH therapeutic school based in Islington are looking for a SEMH Primary Teacher to join them as soon as possible. The school caters to students who cannot access mainstream education and has a therapeutic approach to teaching and learning with an onsite team of Therapy staff. The class sizes are very small and focus on the individual needs of students who have often experienced trauma and adverse childhood experiences. This education provider supports children and young people who for many reasons cannot access any other formal educational settings – these are the most vulnerable, at-risk and hard to reach in our community and so it is important to be successful in this role that you understand their SEMH needs must be met before any academic development can happen and we are seeking individuals who can make a positive impact. What We Are looking for - SEMH Primary Teacher • Therapeutic teaching approach • Primary specialist with phonics experience • Experience in teaching with emotional regulation and with positive behaviour/de-escalation strategies • Positive role model to support communication, with a sensitive, nurturing, and consistent approach • Experience with SEMH, Trauma, Sensory processing, social communication teaching background • Ability to build strong and meaningful relationships with vulnerable students • Experience in working with disengaged teenagers is essential.
