Job Title: Principal Civil/Structural Engineer
Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
Main Responsibilities and Duties:
- Manage engineering projects, including resource planning, design review, and ensuring timely and within-budget deliverables.
- Act as a liaison with clients on technical matters.
- Lead a team of Engineers and CAD Technicians, ensuring compliance with Company Management Systems (ISO9001, ISO45001, and ISO14001).
- Mentor and review the work of Engineers and CAD Technicians.
- Design construction methods and temporary structures, with a focus on steel to Eurocode standards.
- Conduct structural analysis using computer programs such as STAAD Pro and LUSAS.
- Prepare design calculations and sketches, utilizing Microsoft Excel, Autodesk AutoCad, and/or Inventor.
- Supervise the CAD team to produce 3-D models, GA, and manufacturing drawings.
- Prepare technical documentation including project design statements, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Prepare tender designs and estimates.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Chartered Engineer with a minimum of a 2:1 degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- At least 12 years of post-graduation experience in structural analysis and design, with a focus on steel structures.
- Experience in technical team leadership and management.
- Knowledge of temporary works and construction engineering, particularly heavy lifting equipment and techniques.
- Proficiency in Eurocodes for design.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email systems.
Preferable:
- Experience in the design and construction of long-span bridges and major buildings.
- Experience in designing specialist temporary works, especially related to heavy lifting and moving projects.
- Some site and/or industrial practical experience.
- Familiarity with ISO9001, ISO45001, and ISO14001, and experience in company management systems.
- Knowledge of CAD packages (Autodesk AutoCad and/or Inventor) and mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment.
Management Requirement: Yes, leading a team of approximately 6.
