Babbity Environmental is a friendly team of environmental consultants. We work with a range of clients, including large commercial companies and the public sector, as well as smaller land developers, renewable energy companies and house builders, to help them understand the complexities of environmental planning, in order to deliver a wide variety of environmental projects in Scotland and the UK. Our successful, pioneering work has attracted clients and enabled us to grow and combine forces with other businesses who share our ethos and integrity. At our core, our people are actively working towards the protection of the local, national and global environment.
Why join us?
We are expanding our team to support our clients with all stages of EIA work and in particular, the creation of Environmental Statements, Environmental Impact Assessment Reports and other environmental consenting documents. You will work within our growing terrestrial division of environmental planning and ecology experts, supporting the delivery of diverse and challenging projects across Scotland and the UK.
In return we offer a unique and exciting opportunity to help shape the evolution of a small but ambitious team, within a people first consulting business. Your expertise will help us to shape the kind of projects we accept, how our team operates, the work we carry out and what and who we use in our supply chain. With the support of an experienced and passionate Director and a wider team of consultants, you will influence the blueprint for the business going forward. The position comes with a competitive salary, company pension and private medical cover.
Whilst the position involves remote working, site visits will also be required and attendance, in person, at some client meetings and conferences, mainly Scottish based. Therefore, a UK driving licence would be an advantage or easy access to the public transport system.
About the role
We are looking for you to:
- Assist with recruiting and establishing a terrestrial team to support or lead on EIAs and environmental planning projects.
- Undertake the role of an EIA Project Manager. You will be responsible for authoring and/or reviewing chapters and ensuring that all work required to inform the environmental reporting is carried out on time, on budget and that recommendations are made in line with the current regulations and guidance.
- Manage your team and ensure they are resourced accordingly.
- Conduct site visits and attend conferences, as required.
- Where necessary, identify and engage 3rd party suppliers.
- Attend client meetings to understand requirements and maintain strong communications and briefings.
- As the business requires, you will assist in delivery of other related environmental assessments, commensurate with experience and technical understanding.
- Liaise with potential clients, network, identify business opportunities and generate new business.
About you
You will be excited by the opportunities presented by working in a small but rapidly growing consultancy. A self-starter who can work under minimal supervision and comfortable working from your home environment within a virtual company.
While working remotely, you will be expected to pitch-in, contribute the businesses’ growth and demonstrate a flexible attitude. A thorough understanding of the Scottish and UK policy and regulatory framework for EIA is required.
We are looking for an expert in the delivery of EIA work, including screening, scoping and end reporting. Ideally, you will have a secondary skill in either hydrology, ecology or landscaping.
You will either currently be a Chartered Environmentalist or a full member of either the Institute of Environmental Sciences, Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management or other professional body. In not already a full member you will commit to gaining this accreditation within 12 months which Babbity would be happy to support.
In addition, we are looking for someone who approaches environmental protection and consulting with passion, creativity and integrity. You will be a strong project manager and be able to mentor others around you to deliver high quality work. Experience of 3rd party supplier management will also be beneficial; you will need to evidence, during interview, that you have worked with multi-disciplinary teams, sourced suppliers, and reviewed work against these to ensure high quality and consistent outputs.
Next steps
We are focused on creating a diverse and inclusive team. If you can’t tick every box above then we are still keen to hear from you and are open to supporting your development. That may be working part time or supporting you to gain experience in a specific area – we are a growing company and are able to adapt roles to reflect individual skills. We may also have an associated role that might be of interest.
We expect significant interest in this flexible and rewarding role. If you think you have what it takes to join our friendly and dynamic business, then please apply by email to alison.ryan@babbity.co.uk including a copy of your CV accompanied by a short statement explaining why this post would suit you.
