Our Opportunity:
Our UK and Ireland "Markets & Risk" department brings together the combined expertise of over 140 multi-disciplinary specialists from oil & Gas, power and renewable energy backgrounds, to strategically advise and support businesses throughout their Energy Transition journey. In addition, the department has environmental & social specialists including ecology, permitting and experts in other related fields. Within this, DNV's Transactions Advisory section advises financial institutions and Energy and Infrastructure companies on due diligence projects across buy side, sell side, and project finance deals.

As part of this Transactions Advisory section, our specialist ESG team works with customers struggling with the challenges of delivering on sustainability expectations including climate change and biodiversity, helping them make critical strategic decisions in an equitable, transparent, and profitable manner. Our growing team includes a blend of specialists in the industry sectors and the associated technologies, partnered with expertise in climate risk, social engagement, policy and governance and key environmental topics.

Much of the drive for change comes from the financial community, meaning that you'll work in partnership with investors, asset managers and corporate management teams, advising and supporting the key interaction between these three critical groups. This role therefore provides you with a real opportunity to make a meaningful impact and deliver tangible benefits for sustainability.

Key elements of your role will therefore include:

  • Conducting ESG due diligence studies for assets in the Infrastructure, Energy and Oil and Gas sectors and their supply chains.
  • Creating and delivering ESG Strategies and sustainability programmes, including policy and procedures.
  • Performing ESG materiality assessments for companies or portfolio level.
  • Aiding the implementation of ESG frameworks and standards, supporting reporting and disclosure of customers.
  • Evaluation of ESG performance of companies in the relevant sectors.
  • Providing key research, analysis and advisory insight and support to our customers.
  • Evaluation of stakeholder engagement, social studies, social risk assessment process against international standards.
  • Advising on impacts on Clients from key sustainable regulations.
  • Review and evaluation of Greenhouse Gas Emission inventories, creation of Net Zero strategies and technology implementation plans.

The nature of your work will be varied, challenging and fast paced, working on multiple projects simultaneously, as you contribute to the delivery of projects for our clients. You'll utilise your skills and experience to determine findings, draw conclusions and develop recommendations for our clients, communicating these though client reports and presentations.

In addition, you will use and develop all these skills to develop and maintain client relationships to support and contribute to the sales process for the Markets & Risk unit including bid development. But don't worry, you will be supported by a large team (currently about 140 FTE) and collaborating with colleagues across DNV's services, to help leverage our broader technical / sustainability / commercial expertise and global footprint.

  • Significant demonstrable sustainability experience (ideally with consultancy experience) gained within the sustainability and ESG space including, decarbonisation, climate risk, community engagement, biodiversity and policy.
  • Extensive practical knowledge of Sustainable Development Goals, Paris agreement framework, Climate change and energy transition frameworks and standards i.e. GRI, PRI, TCFD, SASB etc.
  • Experience in energy assets and industry and general energy market understanding from a sustainability stand point
  • Comprehensive understanding of the sustainability regulatory landscape and be able to advise Clients on key regulatory impacts.
  • Excellent report writing, oral communication and presentation skills, ability to define and explain complex technical issues and solutions to non-experts
  • Flexible attitude to working in a fast-paced and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Creative, analytical and solution orientated, demonstrating the ability to interpret data, generate insights and provide recommendations
  • Ability to collaborate with others and plan and prioritise activities, to deliver against competing/tight deadlines
  • Ability to lead and manage transaction and advisory projects including driving report / delivery output quality.

While you could work from any of our UK offices, our specific team are predominantly based out of London and Manchester, so we do look for flexibility and a willingness to travel to these key hubs on a regular basis, to aid collaboration with colleagues and clients.
