About the role

We are looking for a Principal Electronics Engineer to lead and manage the electronics department to support, maintain and improve the product offering of Paxton, based in our offices in Brighton. You will be responsible for a range of projects to support continuity of supply on existing products (obsolescence, value engineering, increasing resilience or quality improvement) as well new ground up development.

You will champion and be accountable for the electronic design, development and test of the company’s new and existing electronic product portfolio which will encompass task scoping, design cost analysis and project planning/estimation to achieve project milestones and quality of product delivery.

The existing team is a Senior Engineer and an Engineer, but the broader remit will involve significant input in supply chain, quality, compliance and product management.

You will have the appropriate skillset, competence, experience or development potential to be able to:

  • Proactively lead technical discussion and drive issues closure with relevant parties.
  • Articulate technical proposals/justification/issues and provide clear technical updates to project and management teams regularly on progress.
  • Communicate technical changes and impact to the team, motivate, coach and support team members in their deliverables.
  • Provide feedback and reports in conjunction with the personal development. Participate in the review an appraisal programme for the team members performance.
  • Be accountable for the highest quality delivery of our work for all our products.
  • Work alongside the Resource and Delivery Manager/s to plan and support the allocation of resources and budgets for projects, tasks and work packages throughout the product life cycle.
  • Ensure that designs are properly verified according to engineering procedures and comply with relevant regulatory standards.
  • Manage the internal and external change process on existing designs
  • Approve designs and engineering changes for general release

What are we looking for?

  • Solid knowledge and experience within the electronics R&D lifecycle, from design capture through to obsolescence management
  • The ability to create vision and direction not only to the electronics team but to your stakeholders and suppliers.
  • An engineering degree or demonstrable experience in a similar role.
  • The ability to coach and mentor a team, delegating appropriately.
  • A sound commercial understanding with the ability to use this information to influence stakeholders and suppliers effectively.
