Job description

We are looking for an experienced and talented professional to join West Northampton Council as our Highways DevelopmentPrincipal Engineer.

This role is responsible for the co-ordination and management of all highway Development Management functions including expert highway and engineering advice on planning applications and road adoptions.

 This is an exciting time to join our Highways Development Management team! We are a new local authority, created in April 2021. We are at the beginning of a new journey of shaping highway development across West Northants.

What will you be doing?You will play a lead role on all major highway development proposals across West Northampton and provide expert advice to a team of Highways Development Management Officers.

You will work with planning teams and external partners in securing funding through negotiation of legal agreements under planning and highway legislation with developers on major developments to support the Council’s aims and objectives in delivering sustainable development proposals.

You will be experienced in negotiating and analysing Transport Statements and Assessments and in providing wider transport-related development control advice within the planning process, including negotiating related S106 obligations.

You will be competent in producing detailed technical evidence and have experience in presenting expert highway and engineering advice and reports to planning colleagues, developers, Councillors and other elected Members, the public and other associated groups or organisations.
About youThe successful candidate will have previous experience in highway Development Management and have the ability of communicate effectively at all levels and to provide support and leadership to colleagues as necessary.
