Job description

Cranleigh STEM is working with a revolutionary business that utilises AI, automation, and robotic applications to design and develop new molecules for chemicals and materials.

We are looking for a Principal Hardware engineer to join its team on a permanent, full-time basis in Glasgow.

As a Principal Hardware engineer, you will work as part of a driven product development team whose focus is to develop and build automated systems and robotic platforms. You will bring your knowledge in advanced mechatronics and commercial-grade hardware development to spearhead projects from concept through to launch.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve technologies to meet business needs in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Shape the company's hardware architecture for short-, medium-, and long-term business goals, ensuring efficient, scalable solutions.
  • Ensure designs are easy to manufacture and maintain for global deployment.
  • Guide hardware implementation, creating processes for high-quality contributions from engineers.
  • Assess and introduce new tools and processes to maintain high performance and reliability.
  • Improve company efficiency quickly to maximise technology value.
  • Implement new processes to reduce costs, increase quality, and improve workflow efficiency.
  • Optimise laboratory and company workflows for safety, quality, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with various teams to develop and implement high-quality workflows.
  • Work with management to improve laboratory efficiency and allocate resources effectively.
  • Contribute to long-term plans for company performance improvements.
  • Participate in tasks across the company to ensure success.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, design, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, testing, and launching hardware solutions.
  • Proven track record in creating successful mechatronics solutions for complex problems.
  • Experience with robust and scalable engineered solutions for big data challenges.
  • Experience leading interdisciplinary projects in mechanical, electrical/electronic, and software engineering.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing methods (machining, 3D printing, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Clear communication with external partners for efficient delivery of materials.
  • Strong record of innovation, supported by patents.
  • Ability to assess and improve engineering team performance.
  • A recognised leader in hardware engineering.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
