Role: Principal Infrastructure & Networks Engineer
Location: Cardiff several days a month, with travel
Salary: starting £65-000- £70,000 basic with expenses paid for.
We are seeking a Principal Infrastructure & Networks Engineer to help own the specification, design, deployment and commissioning of the elements of clients core infrastructure project deployments. The successful operation and functioning of these core systems is Infrastructure and network systems specification and design, deployment testing and deployment in field to live customer sites, site configuration and 4th line support as critical to project success as the core product.
This is a broad technical role, and it is essential that the successful candidate has a solid background in infrastructure/systems with focus on network, storage and compute architectures but also system configuration of deployments in-field. Additionally a large part of the role will require 4th line support when needed in assisting the Customer Support Team (CST) in the solving of live system issues.
The Systems Delivery Team normally works from the Cardiff office and the expectation is that you would be present in the Cardiff office several days each month, between which you are also required to travel to Asia and/or the Middle East where expertise is needed.
During the pre-contract phase
• assist the commercial team with specifying and costing systems components as an input to commercial proposals and tenders.
• Provide initial designs, documentations, drawings, low-level designs (LLD’s) and anything that relates to the products including compliance regulations
• Consider technical suitability of potential thirds party suppliers
• Engage in technical discussions with ICPs, vendors, suppliers and wider members of the team and the company on how the core infrastructure can be evolved in line with project requirements and how large data volumes can be transmitted over large, often poor networks in-country,
In the post-contract phase, it is implicit that the Infrastructure team ensure the work is carried out hand in hand with the ICP and/or other specific sub contractor/field teams and will be responsible for assessing and approving their work for compliance with the agreed requirements.
Additionally, the role of the team will also require a large degree of site configuration working with other company members on the rollout of a sound systems governance relating to firmware, patch rollout and other project and site configuration.
Depending on the specific element of the site deployment, the role will be required to execute some combination of specification, design, documentation, deployment, acceptance testing and approval for the site.
Primary responsibilities
• Site mains power, back up power provision, ensuring core systems are not compromised by power fluctuations and outages.
Civil works and LLD specifications and designs for data centre deployments of various functional centres including network architecture
Communications network infrastructure to the site, ensuring resilience and reliability and sound data/bandwidth analysis
• Specifying and designing mobile sites, for land, sea and air. Testing and approving correct operation and compliance of associated deliverables.
• Creation of maintenance and troubleshooting documentation for use internally, by ICPs and customers and willingness to act as 4th line support for live project issues.
Experience needed
• At least 5 years’ experience of specifying, designing, deploying large infrastructure projects
• Experience in large data transfer over varying network architectures.
• Experience of wider datacentre infrastructure and network architecture components including firewalls, network switches, power systems/UPS and extending these designs to deploy in bespoke harsh environments as well as traditional datacenters.
• Experience in system resilience, backup solutions and scalability
• Experience in system configuration management and end-to-end project life cycle management.
• Experience in working with real-time sensor system desirable
• Capable of producing high quality documentation, drawings and LLD’s
• Substantial experience of working with third party suppliers to deliver systems and integrating sub-systems into the overall site.
• Experience of working in South East Asia and/or the Middle East desirable.
• Experience in cyber-security and wider security systems desirable
• Able to produce and deliver clear and concise stakeholder reports and presentations.
• Willing to travel to globally, occasionally and for periods of up to two weeks at a time.
• A high level of personal organisation and ability to plan and execute work without continuous involvement and supervision from others.
• Degree qualified in a computing or engineering discipline or equivalent.
