Dear Nuclear Medicine (certified and aspiring) MPE's,
This is genuinely a fantastic time to join us at St. George's University Hospital, as appointed MPE to three independent sites you will have the autonomy to lead on IR[ME]R compliance and effect change, imminent opportunities include commissioning of new equipment (GE 870 CZT SPECTCT and Hidex gamma counter), establish and optimise imaging protocols at a centre new to GE and digital systems, lead on establishing new non-imaging procedures (GFR and red call mass).
Our large reach and support of a variety of imaging equipment and applications makes St. George’s a great place to gain a wealth of evidence and experience for aspiring MPE's, applications from those working towards an MPE portfolio are therefore highly encouraged.
The Nuclear Medicine Physics team supports three gamma cameras onsite (two Intevo SPECT/CT and a Symbia S), a GFR service with Hidex and Wizard gamma counters, gamma probes for sentinel node biopsy and a radionuclide therapy service. The department actively supports training of STP trainees and opportunities for lecturing on courses and CPD exist. External support is provided to a fleet of PET/CT mobiles and local Nuclear Medicine and PET departments.
The successful candidate will act as an appointed MPE for nominated external sites and therefore applications from certified MPEs or those with sufficient experience to imminently apply for MPE certification will be considered favourably.
To work as part of a team providing physics support to the Nuclear Medicine Department within the Nuclear Medicine Physics Group.
To support specialised diagnostic and therapyservices in the Nuclear Medicine Department with clinical, scientific, technical and computing support.
To support and manage training elements in the department, including the local STP programme.
Direct patient contact is through managing and administering patients with radionuclide therapy and when delivering individual radiation protection advice.
Support to other scientific staff in the provision of a Medical Physics service at external sites to which a physics service is provided. This includes at Nuclear Medicine and PET‑CT mobile and fixed site facilities.
To become an appointed Medical Physics Expert for nominated external sites in support of compliance with IRMER 2017 regulations. Certified MPEs or sufficiently experienced applicants that are close to apply for MPE certification are encouraged to apply.
The postholder will work as part of a dynamic team of Physicists in the Nuclear Medicine Physics group as part of the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering department who provide support Nuclear Medicine, Radiopharmacy and a number of healthcare sites and mobile scanning facilities. Routine travel to externally supported sites is expected.
Provide physics support and cover to the day-to-day work of the Nuclear Medicine Department and Radiopharmacy at St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Advise Nuclear Medicine and Radiopharmacy staff on a range of scientific and technical issues.
Provide physics support to external customers including mobile and static PET‑CT, gamma camera, SPECT‑CT, non-imaging services and radionuclide therapy. Advise staff on a range of scientific and technical issues including recommending remedial interventional action
To act as Medical Physics Expert (MPE) for nominated external sites as per the department’s contract. This includes advice on compliance with regulations and provision of an annual MPE audit, being signatory on ARSAC applications and responsibilities under the IR(ME)R 2017 Regulations
