We are seeking to recruit to an exceptional professional for the Principal Occupational Therapist post to provide strategic leadership for occupational therapy practice. We want to ensure high quality professional practice so that the people of Rotherham are supported to achieve the outcomes they want to achieve and be as independent as possible.
You will hold a professional qualification in Occupational Therapy. Your leadership and management skills and experience will be crucial alongside your detailed understanding of the occupational therapy roles.
As Principal OT you will be joining us at an inspiring time as we refresh our Adult Social Care Strategy and look to support new ways of working. You will champion high quality occupational therapy practice and provide effective strategic leadership. You will be part of a dynamic and supportive team which will see you working closely with the Principal Social Worker and the Adult Social Care Senior Management team as well as working with strategic partners. You will develop a unifying practice framework for Occupational Therapy (OT), based on the views and experiences of frontline practitioners and people with lived experience.
You will lead on identifying new ways of doing things, so our integrated services are transformed, responsive and focus on the outcomes that people wish to achieve. Preventative and proportionate models of care will form the foundations of the postholders approach. You will also support embedding the provision of Assistive Technology to enhance independence and optimise the use of digital technology.
You will lead and govern excellent practice and you will create and embed a Workforce Development Strategy that ensures the delivery of a systematic approach to staff development and training in line with the expectations of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy and social care business needs. You will lead effective workforce planning, recruitment and retention and will have responsibility for the management of and the identification of placement opportunities for occupational therapy students and the provision of positive placement opportunities for other professions in conjunction with workforce development.
You will be the lead officer with Higher Education Institutions and other centres of learning to influence qualifying course content, post qualification opportunities and links to research and development. You will be key in shaping the future of Occupational Therapy provision across the council and influence development across the Rotherham Place.
You will provide leadership and guidance, coordination and support across Adult Social Care and wider partners to ensure that practice development is shared across services in a systematic way.
As Principal OT you will take the lead role in ensuring that there are effective systems and procedures in place to ensure that adults at risk are protected from harm and teams have the appropriate governance in place.
You will be an active participant in the network of Principal Occupational Therapists across England and communicate practice intelligence about the effectiveness of protection and safeguarding services providing progress reports as and when required.
To ensure visibility of your leadership role it will include representation at a range of local, regional and national professional forums including the South Yorkshire AHP Council.
