Principal Planning Policy Officer

As an ambitious council, Basingstoke and Deane really focuses on putting our residents at the heart of everything we do. Playing a key role in supporting the delivery of planning projects and strategies, we’re looking to recruit a Principal Planning Policy Officer as part of a growing Planning Policy Team.

Your role will involve leading on the delivery of a high-quality Planning Policy service, leading on aspects of the preparation and implementation of Planning Policy documents, ranging from the local plan (a review is currently in its early stages) to supplementary planning documents and design codes. We are currently at an interesting stage of Local Plan making, with opportunities to get involved in the latter stages of the process including consultation and examination over the next two years. You will also lead on background studies to inform policy development and provide technical planning advice to a wide range of customers.

Given the rural/urban mix of the borough there will be opportunities to work with rural communities to produce neighbourhood plans, alongside involvement in large scale regeneration and urban extension projects. You will support the council’s infrastructure, regeneration and delivery functions whilst leading work on major sites.

With an RTPI accredited degree/post graduate qualification and being a member of the RTPI you should have significant experience in Planning Policy related activities.  You will understand current professional practices including the preparation of Local Plans, have excellent project management skills and the ability to effectively communicate information to a range of audiences.
