Principal Tech Architects - Infrastructure, Security, Business

HM Land Registry ("HMLR") and Inspire People are partnering together to bring you an exciting opportunity for Technical Architects in Infrastructure, Security or Business Architecture, to join HMLR as Principal Technical Architects and play key roles in helping HMLR continue a major transformation programme to fulfil their ambition on becoming the world's leading land registry. Starting salary of GBP71,245 to GBP85,300 dependent upon interview assessment, plus excellent Civil Service benefits and 28% pension. Flexible, hybrid working from multiple locations across the UK, including London, Plymouth, Nottingham, Swansea, Liverpool, Durham, and Kingston upon Hull.
We are recruiting three types of Principal Technical Architects - Infrastructure, Security and Business.

All three roles share the same essential experience and technical skills listed below, with candidates having the required domain background:
Infrastructure: Candidates require a wide-ranging generalist background in different technologies including knowledge of hosting and desktop, AWS and Azure, ideally with a operations background and understanding of road mapping and security knowledge.
Security: Maintaining the integrity of the land register is key and in this role, you will be able to consider everything from a risk assessment point of view. You will be confident and have a focused view on risk and how to manage it, not afraid to challenge the status quo. You will be security accredited with an understanding of cloud and on-premise software and ideally an understanding of security working in government.
Business: You will be a trusted business advisor that can be Embedded seamlessly into the business and architecture practice. You will be confident working in an environment with ambiguity and be a strong stakeholder manager. You can conceptualise what the business needs and then translate it into what they can do within architecture. As well as a level of technical knowledge you will be confident working within a series of transitions states and able to communicate this to very senior stakeholders who are keen to understand the transition state. You can tell them confidently where we are today and where we want to go. You may have a background as a highly qualified BA with architecture experience, but this is not essential, however your advisory skills are.
Responsibilities of the Principal Architect across all three roles include:
. Provide leadership and direction to all architect and design roles, demonstrating familiarity and competence of the development of digital and corporate solutions using a combination of technologies. Develop technical staff at all levels to build an agile architectural function that is fully integrated with the rest of the organisation.
. Define and communicate the strategic design for the future HMLR technology estate, sponsoring need to standardise and re-use technology to deliver business outcomes, reducing duplication and use of bespoke solutions.
. Build an effective network with external stakeholders such as the Government Digital Service (GDS) to share plans, strategies and to promote shared platform use.
. Ensure adherence to wider government initiatives and technology code of practice.
. Drive innovation across the organisation using technology.
. Deliver architectural governance, managing alignment and compliance with architectural standards and strategies.
Essential Experience skills of the Principal Architect across all three roles include:
. Experience of designing for large projects and collaborating with multiple agile teams to see those designs through to delivery.
. Taking accountability for the design of end-to-end solutions from initiation and throughout its life cycle in line with strategy.
. Planning for decommissioning, maintainability, performance, reliability, and scalability.
. Understanding technology and the needs of stakeholders and then using this knowledge to deliver good architectural designs.
. Proactively keeping abreast of upcoming technologies and changes in the industry.
. Developing technical strategies and roadmaps
. Structured, logical decomposition of problems using appropriate modelling techniques and languages.
. Communicating with stakeholders and selling technical ideas and concepts in a simple way to diverse groups, negotiating and influencing at all levels including senior leaders.
. Being comfortable with change and ability to multi-task and prioritise projects, being able to respond quickly to changing circumstances.
Technical skills common to all three roles:
. Designing secure and scalable services within common public cloud platforms (particularly Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services) and related technologies
. Managing and delivering complex technology solutions within time, cost and quality targets
. Develop and maintain a strong business/Infrastructure and Security architecture capability through coaching, mentoring, and training.
. Be a recognised domain expert and demonstrate this expertise by solving unprecedented issues and problems.
