Job description

The Print Edition Editor will be responsible for publishing the Print Editions of The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph, and the Edition App. The successful candidate will ensure that the news, features, business and sports sections are published to the exacting standards of The Telegraph, and on deadline. 

The role requires excellent news judgment, leadership, the ability to make quick decisions and the confidence to change course when news breaks, the skill of crafting sharp headlines, a keen eye for details and a track record of delivering high quality newspaper pages to daily deadlines.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and edit the Telegraph’s print news pages and ensure they are produced to the standard readers of the paper expect.
  • Take responsibility for the placing of stories and pictures and make proactive decisions.
  • Create front pages that set the news agenda.
  • Oversee the teams producing the business, features and sports sections and give guidance where necessary.
  • Work with the news, design, picture and digital news desks to ensure the edition is produced efficiently, that the best content is used and is presented consistently with Telegraph.co.uk
  • Ensure that the Digital Edition is produced on time, with the same quality of headline and display as the Print Edition and intervene, where necessary, to update the edition when a story breaks.

Key skills

  • This is a very senior role and experience of leading news production at a national newspaper is essential. The successful candidate will need to be able to work independently, and have the confidence to take tough decisions.
  • Ability to work efficiently, make best use of resources and collaborate with colleagues. 
  • A proven record for accuracy and attention to detail; imagination in writing headlines and in the display of pages; an excellent understanding of what makes a good picture, a superior understanding of language and its correct usage.
  • An understanding of how multimedia digital stories and images can be translated into engaging articles in print. 
  • Effective communication and collaborative skills.
  • Experience in managing people and transforming a department. 
  • A willingness to embrace data to guide decisions on stories and their placement in print.
