Salary: £23,700 with progression to £25,138 per annum, pro rata

The Role 

 

Newcastle University Library is a multiple-award winning service. We are the only University Library in the UK to have received the Charter Mark five times, and now hold the Customer Services Excellence award which replaced it. It illustrates our dedication to delivering a friendly, professional, and efficient service to all our customers and putting them at the heart of everything we do.  

 

This is a place-based role in a busy vibrant campus.  In this position you will work as part of the University Print Room Team, providing a high quality print / large format print/ reprographic service to both University and external customers. 

 

There are two posts available. One full time (37 hours per week) and one part-time (18.5 hours per week).

Key Accountabilities 

  • Day to day operation of the digital print Ricoh Presses, large format Roland eco solvent and Canon ipf8400 printers. Dealing with customers to produce high quality output from a number of digital and hard copy print sources to tight deadlines for Library, University and external clients
  • Ensuring the up time and maintenance of equipment within the Print Room, including maintaining equipment, reporting faults and calling out engineers
  • Dealing with customers, by telephone and email providing specialised advice, give pricing, agree delivery dates that fit into Print Room workloads and customer deadlines and book in jobs using an access database.  Also dealing with customers face to face at the Print Services reception
  • Production of a variety of skilled print finishing including booklet making, various bindings, etc, to strict deadlines and high-quality standards
  • Participate in Library disaster planning and recovery activities as directed by the Library Disaster Control Team
  • Monitor and maintain the Print Room stationery stocks including inventory control and timely delivery of stationery requests to Library staff
  • Giving help, training and advice to print services staff who are new. Also providing this support to university staff and students including the production of help sheets for all customers

 

The Person 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience  

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Adobe creative suite and specialist print and finishing software and equipment  

  • Good written, inter-personal and oral communication, and customer care skills 

  • Ability to work in a busy target/delivery driven environment and plan and prioritise own workload in line with team responsibilities with minimal supervisions to meet strict deadlines

  • Ability to use initiative to select best methodology or troubleshoot to meet customer quality and delivery demands with major decisions made by Print Room Supervisor

  • Experience of working in an academic or commercial print environment  

  • Practical experience of digital reprographic equipment, digital scanning and imaging software  

  • Ability to handle heavy print material

  • Practical knowledge of graphic design, information technology, or other cognate disciplines

Qualifications 

  • A recognised qualification to HNC or equivalent level in printing or significant experience in a Print Room environment
