Job Summary:
- To undertake the purchasing of all materials, fixings, special items, consumables and plant required by the company to support the manufacture and delivery of high quality structural steel and architectural metal works to meet quality, program and budget requirements in line with the Company Factory Production Control System and Welding Quality Management System.
Job Duties:
- Ensure that all purchases are made within budget, delivered to program and to quality specification from approved sources.
- Raise new orders on the company job Costing System.
- Ensure all new suppliers are pre-qualified to meet quality requirements and are entered onto Strumis prior to placing orders.
- Annually review the approved supplier list to ensure quality requirements are maintained and list is kept current.
- Check stock with workshop before placing orders and always obtain a price prior to placing an order.
- Check works program and liaise with Production Manager/Projects Manager for material delivery dates to ensure enough time allowed for ordering materials especially 'specials’ or long-lead items.
- Send enquiries to at least two suppliers and negotiate on a whole job rather than individual call-off basis wherever possible to ensure best price and delivery.
- Check delivery dates acceptable with production and manage suppliers to meet delivery commitments.
- Check budgets when sending out for quotes and highlight any problems with Estimator.
- Monthly stocktaking of welding consumables for the consignment stock
- Ensure all boxes of fixings received are marked with the correct job number, site and phase as appropriate.
- heck with Production Manager on heavy structural jobs to decide whether or not a job warrants saw/drill line and profiling or stock bar in house cutting/fabrication before proceeding with purchasing.
