Kickstart your career by joining us as a Level 6 Product Design Apprentice. As part of the Product Design team, you play a part in continuously improving the customer experience across mobile and web. You’ll be working with other designers, product managers, engineers, and researchers to help guide our products through both discovery (learning about user problems) and iterative delivery (designing and testing solutions).
Part of your role will involve helping to facilitate and participate in design workshops as well as designing, prototyping and testing ideas with your team and in more formal testing environments.
You’ll have opportunities to input to decision making throughout the product lifecycle – learning when and where design thinking and design craft are needed, and how to communicate the value of each. Through studying, on the job learning, and as you gain confidence you’ll play a role in influencing, persuading, and evangelising our design system and user experience design within your product team.
You will complete a Degree Apprenticeship in Creative Digital Design with Manchester Metropolitan University. Throughout the 4-year programme you will attend blocks of learning at University and the rest of the time developing your skills on the job working as part of a Product Design team
You may think a love of cars is a must to work at Auto Trader, but it's not. Our Apprentices will be joining us in September 2024.
Eligibility Criteria
- You have a minimum of 104 UCAS points. This is could be gained from A Levels, or, other higher education qualifications, you can calculate your UCAS points here
- You currently hold a level 2 in English and Mathematics, or GCSE at grade 4 (C) or above.
- For this apprenticeship, you must not hold a qualification at level 6 or above in the same or similar subject (for example a University degree in a similar subject)
- You cannot be enrolled in any other full-time education at the time of starting the apprenticeship
- You must have the right to work in England and be a resident here for 3 years prior to the start date

What we’re looking for
- An interest in end-to-end UX design - including understanding problems, using research, prototyping, designing, and testing.
- Some exposure to interaction design work, sketches, storyboards, prototypes, and visual design – this could be in education or in your own time. We would be interested in seeing any examples you have of experimenting with these things.
- The ability to take in multiple sources of information, analyse and organise them, and draw conclusions
- You enjoy working with others and are a good communicator.
Our apprenticeship roles require dedication, a love of learning, and a genuine aim to succeed. This is a permanent role, and the apprenticeship will support your learning and development.
