PB Packaging Group is a successful and growing packaging manufacturing and distribution company with an £18 million turnover based in West London, offering the opportunity for an energetic person with the right technical skills to provide Production support.
Reporting directly to the Production Manager, you will support the running of the manufacturing operation and make substantial input towards the continued development and success of the company.

As the Production Assistant, your main duties are to provide both technical and administrative support in order to facilitate the daily operations of the Production Department. You will need to ensure timely fulfilment of orders and coordinate with various teams including production, sales, dispatch, engineering, purchasing and site services. Your role is crucial in keeping activities working together across departments in order to achieve smooth production operations.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Production Assistant, your main duties are to provide both technical and administrative support in order to facilitate the daily operations of the Production Department. Your role is crucial in keeping activities working together across departments in order to achieve smooth production operations.
Manage Product Testing & Quality Checks:
▪ Run the Quality Check Process throughout the shift.
▪ Manage manufacturing returns, inspect products, identify issues, and collaborate with supervisors to resolve them.
▪ Fill out CPA forms
▪ Document manufacturing rejects, analyse trends, and work on reducing rejects.
Provide Production Scheduling Assistance:
▪ Cover scheduling and updates in the Scheduler's absence.
▪ Assist in preparing work orders as needed.
▪ Serve as the first point of contact for bag makers' queries when the scheduler is absent.
Monitor and Report on Departmental Performance:
▪ Collect and present daily production data to the Production Manager.
▪ Create weekly, monthly, and annual production summaries.
▪ Publish Weekly Manufacturing Updates Summary on the Factory Display Screen
▪ Track raw material stock levels and manage deliveries daily.
▪ Keep the system updated with real-time information on work orders and sales orders.
Manage Production Purchasing Systems:
▪ Place orders for raw material deliveries.
▪ Manage factory consumables, including quality and stock levels.
▪ Source and negotiate replacement parts from suppliers.
Support Production Training and monitor Safe Systems of Work (SSOW):
▪ Distribute new training materials and updates.
▪ Maintain records of production staff training.
▪ Review and update training documents quarterly, safety signage, and procedures with the help of supervisors/production manager.
▪ Update and maintain records to reflect and record the SSOW.
Provide Machinery Maintenance Assistance:
▪ Manage the spare parts inventory and remove obsolete items in collaboration with the maintenance engineer.
▪ Book in receipts of the maintenance goods.
▪ Record maintenance expenses, identify improvements, and address issues.
Increase Recycled Material Use:
▪ Help to achieve our target of at least 30% recycled material in all our production jobs
▪ Conduct monthly internal audits of the recycling system to ensure criteria are met
Participate in Enhancement Projects:
▪ Opportunity for involvement in projects such as ISO quality standard, BRC accreditation work, Paper bags development, Production Enhancement and Efficiency improvements
▪ Provide support for trials with new materials.
▪ Participate in projects to review and enhance the quality and competitiveness of suppliers.
Key attributes required
This is a key role for the continuing success of the company and to help get the best from our manufacturing operation you will have the following attributes:
Either relevant production/engineering experience or else a practical nature and a keen interest in manufacturing processes and ways to achieve continuous improvements.
You will be eager to learn and to be an integral part of improving the efficiency, productivity and safety of the manufacturing department.
You will have a high level of analytic and numerical ability including all standard PC software skills.
Whilst you will be able and confident to interact across departments at all levels, you shall be able to work on your own initiative with strong organisational and time management skills.
Keen to get involved in the nitty-gritty of daily work, you will be capable of dealing with a range of unexpected problems from order scheduling & engineering faults to staffing problems. You will also recognise the great beneficial effect of attention to detail and cumulative small improvements.
Hours / Terms
Full-time role based at Greenford, reporting directly to the Production Manager.
Working hours: Monday to Friday 8.30 am to 5 pm with a half-hour lunch break.
Basic salary in the region of £27,000 - £30,000 per annum depending on skills and experience.
22 days paid holidays (rising to 27 days after 5 years) plus all additional bank holidays.
