Job description

We have been a leading figure in publishing for more than 500 years. We have always been a forward-looking organization, maximizing the technology for the day, but the digital revolution is bringing enormous change, fast. That same spirit of adventure and entrepreneurialism is critical to our future success. In a fast-changing publishing landscape, OUP welcomes the inquisitive, the inventive, and the ambitious; people who challenge the conventional, and pioneer the possible.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with both digital and print content and products across preprimary, primary, secondary and adult sectors, and to contribute to innovative ways of creating, producing and delivering content.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Plan, schedule, and manage Content Production stages of projects, ensuring timely delivery of content or products within the agreed scope and cost.
  • Work alongside Content Development colleagues and the wider cross-functional team to manage content through the production process, focussing on quality assurance and adherence to course standards.
  • Select, brief and oversee the work of external editorial freelancers and packagers according to the requirements of the project, providing feedback when required. Carry out in-house reviews of packager work at touchpoints, and manage remediation activities as needed.
  • Prepare briefs and specification forms for digital products and oversee platform checks
  • Maintain excellent communication within the cross-functional team and appropriate colleagues
  • Identify continuous improvement and innovation opportunities and work with colleagues to ensure that best practice, new processes, workflows, systems and lessons learned are implemented effectively.
  • Identify and implement better and faster ways to create, produce and deliver content, including by automating some stages.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

About You

You’ll be collaborative team player with the ability to communicate with different people throughout the business. You will have experience working on complex projects and will be able to prioritize a busy workload autonomously in order to successfully manage your time. To be successful you’ll also have:

Essential:

  • Productional editorial experience including experience of copy-editing, proofreading and briefing digital components
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience of commissioning and managing the work of external suppliers, including giving clear and actionable feedback.

Desirable:

  • Interest or background in ELT
  • An understanding of structured content, metadata and tagging
  • An understanding of XML

Benefits

We care about work/life balance here at OUP. With this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday that rises with service, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure (3-days) and a 35-hour working week. We are open to discussing flexibility in respect to working patterns, dependent on role. We also have a great variety of active employee networks and societies.

We help make your money go further by contributing to your pension up to 12%, offering loans and savings schemes through our partnership with Salary Finance, in addition to travel to work schemes and access to a wide range of local discounts.

This role comes with a discretionary annual bonus.
