Job description

As Production Lead you will have responsibility for the delivery of daily production activities within individual manufacturing cells. You will lead your cell to meet customer needs and achieve standards related to safety, quality, productivity, cost and on-time delivery.

Main Duties:

  • Control of cell resource to achieve maximum productivity and material utilisation within the requirements of the production schedule. Ensure reporting is completed correctly i.e. closing shop orders, reporting operations and issuing materials per order. Accurate handovers to be provided upon completion of shift, including machine breakdowns or issues any relevant information affecting work.
  • Manage inventory daily within the cell to ensure that stock levels are accurate and reflected in our systems.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures, Risk Assessments, Quality Requirements, etc with particular reference to health, safety and quality. Training records are to be maintained to show training in progress.
  • Assist with the generation of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Motivate cell members to meet the production schedule whilst maintaining high levels of quality and on-time delivery; developing cell members skills via coaching, mentoring and training.
  • Ensure timely completion of individual targets/KPIs set in conjunction with the Departmental Manager.
  • Generates ideas and implements changes in processes and use of equipment to increase efficiency, improve safety and quality, reduce costs and improve employee morale.
  • Work with Engineering and Quality teams to identify, troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing problems.
  • Minimise waste and cost and ensure conformance to safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain department cleanliness through excellent housekeeping practices. Develops appropriate programs in areas needing improvement planning.
  • Ensure optimum performance of the cell members including conducting performance appraisals and delivery coaching.
  • Review regularly the Schedule Adherence Plan to ensure adequate stock/materials are available to maximise productivity.
  • Formally approve cell holiday entitlements whilst making sure all planned work can be carried out.
  • Reduce occupational injuries inherent to the area by auditing and ensure all employees to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
  • Completion on return to work interviews and absence monitoring.
  • Responsibility for securing/opening the site as per agreed schedule.
  • Leading change, integrating best practice and setting a personal example.
  • Driving continuous improvement.
  • Carrying out any other reasonable duties that may be requested from time to time.

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Capable of delivering excellent customer service by continuously meeting and exceeding expectations
  • Able to understand customer needs and develop interventions to fulfil requirements
  • Ensure excellent service delivery through operational excellence
  • Strong communication skills to actively listen to stakeholders and clearly verbalise ideas and action plans
  • Excellent organisational skills to apply production schedules and ensure the availability of necessary materials and equipment
  • Strong analytical skills to determine problems within the production process and take appropriate action
  • Good time-management skills to minimise downtime and ensure a team works efficiently
  • The ability to cope in a time sensitive area and make decisions quickly
  • A firm understanding of health and safety regulations
  • Proficient in the use of IT and ERP systems (desirable)

Experience of:

  • Proven track record within a fast pace, demanding manufacturing environment.
  • Involvement in change initiatives and projects with a view to continuous improvement.
  • Building and developing teams.
