Role – Production Manager
Location – Newport
Salary - £45,000 - £50,000 + 10% bonus
Shift – 7:30am – 4:30pm (12:30pm Friday finish)
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Production Manager to join an established engineering company based in Newport.
This market leading engineering business, operating in a wide range of industries including aerospace, defence, automotive and transportation.
Main responsibilities:
- Responsible for day to day running of the Site in General Manager’s absence.
- Ensure that the site is operating in a safe manner and champion safe working to promote company HSE procedures and safe practices.
- Work with the General Manager to deliver the agreed P+L for the site.
- Overall responsible for the Production department.
- Managing the production department including overseeing the Planning of resource, equipment and customer product focused on achieving customer expectations.
- Supporting SHE and Environmental Audit and accreditations (SHE champion).
- Championing Continuous Improvement (KAISEN) to improve operational efficiency whilst building a “Lean” culture on site.
- Demonstrate measurable improvements in key KPI’s including, OTIF, TAT and Efficiency utilising data provided from the Production team.
- Responsible for driving / developing departmental training.
- Overseeing Inventory / stock control / Sub contract operations.
- Assist the quality department to develop actions to improve the quality systems, reduce COPQ and rework.
- Work with the General Manager to analyse customer forecast data to support capacity planning – looking at medium term to assist with resource and investment.
- The manager is expected to deal with all issues at an operational level on site and prepare the required management reporting.
Qualifications, experience and skills:
- Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) to Degree level.
- Management and practical experience in an engineering or materials-based industry and the capability to rapidly gain the requisite industry knowledge.
- Experience in Lean – productivity improvements will be a key aspect of the role.
- The ability to interpret complex data, technical drawings and customer specifications.
- Strong Leadership skills complemented by excellent communication skills.
- Confidence to initiate change with the capability of influencing individuals in their work.
- Adaptability and a keen determination to learn.
- Continuous improvement outlook – wants / likes to improve and a logical thinker.
- Hands on approach 70/30 shop floor / office
Salary / package:
- Eligibility to annual bonus
- Pension – match contribution from 4% – 10%
- Life Assurance – 2 x annual salary rising to 4 x if join Company pension
