Job Purpose
Serve the packhouse and all the Grader customers with graded product of the correct quality and size in line with the quality framework at the correct time whilst running/maintaining the mechanical and software elements of the grading facility, staff, and associated processes. Report crop information to the wider business. Ownership and accountability to ensure the graders are optimised and ran as efficiently as possible to meet the raw material quality standards of the business with minimum downtime and in a safe manner. Be the link between the different departments to optimise workflows.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Oversee the smooth running of the NIR Grader primarily, Grader 1 and Grader 2 if necessary.
- Oversee daily checks & investigate incomplete actions.
- Be the first point of contact in case of a breakdown, working alongside the engineering team.
- Root cause analyse of all breakdowns with a plan of action.
- Equipment maintenance in collaboration with the engineering department.
- Deal with troubleshooting technical issues.
- Q- EYE cameras calibration.
- Identify areas for improvement in the grading process.
- Working closely with other departments to address challenges and streamline processes.
- Use all available information, i.e., line performance information, downtime information etc. to help motivate and improve the team performance.
- Continuously gathering samples to increase the QEF neural network data base, therefore increasing the neural network accuracy.
- Be the main point of contact for communication both verbally and in writing between the shifts.
- Motivate and encourage colleagues in a positive manner.
- Take ownership and be accountable of the product quality by actively undertaking quality control inspections, continually monitor and react to product quality throughout the grading.
- Optimise conformance of graded product to the internal quality standards required by the business for supply into the packhouse or processing facility.
- Clearly and concisely communicate quality issues with other internal departments and ensure action is taken promptly to ensure timely resolution and aid the raw material escalation decision making process.
- Analysing that accurate information is provided to help complete grower out turn’s, labour costs and throughput analysis.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Previous proven supervisory experience with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment of Frequent change.
- Engineering background / Mechanically minded.
- Problem solving skills.

- Ability to prioritise workload as the working situation develops.
- Has a proactive approach to work as they will need to meet targets to ensure the minimum of downtime.
- Keen eye for detail when conducting checks on machinery and processing paperwork.
- A keen interest in developing their skills within the grading department.
