Job description

What if you contributed to a dynamic learning environment?

What if you were facilitating IET Professional Development Courses to contribute towards achieving the strategic objectives of Skills Learning and Networks?

What if you were our Professional Skills Trainer?

At the IET, making our world a better place starts by creating a better place for our people. At the IET you’ll have more than just a job. Our work is exciting and challenging, connecting the people who solve the problems that matter. It means working with us has real meaning and impact, and you’ll grow - professionally and personally - in ways you never thought possible. We’re also making significant investments in our people, including providing a modern, vibrant workplace and embracing hybrid working.

What you’ll be doing

You'll be a vital part of our Learning and Development team, working closely with team members and the L&D Manager to deliver high quality face-to-face and online training across a range of Professional Development and Likesskill topics. You’ll contribute to the development of workshops and products that define industry standards. As a key player, you'll foster and nurture relationships with essential stakeholders, including external trainers and valued customers, collaborating with internal departments and external partners to strategically cross-sell and promote our courses, amplifying their impact.

What we hope you can bring to the role

You’ll be an experienced trainer with a proven track record in delivering a diverse range of soft skills and process training, adept in both online and face-to-face settings. Our ideal candidate should demonstrate expertise in designing and consistently updating training course materials, meticulous attention to detail. Excellent communication skills are essential, and the ability to organize and manage priorities effectively is crucial. You will exhibit a passion for course delivery, with a commitment to prioritising the end-user experience. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication and collaboration within the team.

We’d love to get to know you

Is Imposter syndrome creeping in? Don’t worry - we’d rather hear from you this time than not hear from you at all! Read on for a little more information about the role; but also, keep in mind that we’re open to discussing flexible ways of working, including reduced hours and working in an agile way, supported by a hybrid working framework that allows you to find the best place to do your best work.

A little more about the role

  • Present a variety of courses as public courses and in-company to members, non-members, and their employers.
  • Make recommendations for developing the workshop portfolio and create new workshops in line with IET strategy.
  • Maintain a portfolio of materials that can be used by both internal and external trainers, which are high quality and properly branded.
  • Develop and maintain own skills, and to use feedback from courses to adapt and adopt new materials, workshop formats, delivery methods, etc to ensure IET’s training is 'best-in-class’ and meets the training needs of members and their employers.
  • Work with the L&D manager and Head of Professional Development to develop and deliver the L&D strategy
  • Together with L&D colleagues take ownership of the platforms used to deliver on-line courses, keeping up to date with changes in the systems, ensuring we make the most of the technology and deliver the appropriate services to our customers.
  • Work in closely with the L&D Manager to ensure efficient organization and execution of course administration and excellent customer service.
  • Build relationships with business clients to gain an understanding of their needs and identify opportunities for future business.
  • Represent the IET at events and courses, showing the brand to best advantage and promoting an ethos of professionalism and continuing professional development to all audiences.

A little more about what we’re looking for

  • Proven track record in soft skills training and a passion for training
  • Recognised training qualification Certificate in Training Practices or equivalent experience
  • Excellent presentation skills, both written and oral.
