Job description

Would you like to be part of the Nuclear Decommissioning business?

After nearly half a century of safe and reliable generation, our Advanced Gas Reactor power stations are now approaching the next phase of the nuclear lifecycle as we prepare for decommissioning. Decommissioning of an AGR power station involves the removal of all the fuel and mobile radioactive wastes, and the dismantling and removal of all plant, equipment, services and buildings from the site outside of the reactors and fuel stringer debris vaults.

Our job is to remove 99% of the hazard from each site, ensuring safe and effective delivery of ‘fuel free’ reactors, ready to be decommissioned. This next phase involves the preparation and delivery of projects and programmes to enable the defueling of each reactor to be undertaken with zero harm, within an average timescale of 3.5 years per station and to maximise value. Once the reactors are fuel free, the journey continues as we work with external stakeholders to achieve a seamless transfer for the long-term deconstruction phase.

The Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our hard working and driven teams as our next Programme Manager. In this role, you’ll aid in spearheading and overseeing the complete life cycle of crucial programmes, working collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve our defueling and decommissioning mission.

Our programmes are designed to achieve new capabilities, maximum the benefits to our business and fulfil the specifications outlined in the current Decommissioning Plan Submission (DPS).

Pay, benefits and culture

We’re offering a competitive salary for this opportunity with our terms and conditions covered by the EDF Personal Contract. The starting salary for the appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experiences, and qualification. We’re open to flexible working with contractual locations being primarily based at Atlantic Quay (Glasgow) or Gloucester Business Park offices however, happy for home working on occasion. With this said, there will be a requirement to attend the office on a business need basis.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We’re committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, adjusting as you need.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What you’ll be doing

Programme Managers have a crucial role in developing and implementing a portfolio of Projects and transformation activities towards realising benefits of strategic importance. As this is a leadership role, you’ll hold responsibility for developing and management relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to realise EDF Energy’s strategic ambitions.

To achieve the required outputs from our various programmes, you’ll:

  • Lead and guide the entire programme journey, ensuring successful delivery of new capabilities and benefits.
  • Create and implement robust governance framework for the programme, aligning with existing company processes and requirements for NLF funded works.
  • Coordinate and manage individual projects with the programme.
  • Oversee the programme’s scope, cost, schedule and quality, taking corrective actions where required as well as escalating issues to the Programme Sponsor when needed.
  • Cultivating relationships, keeping stakeholders well informed at all levels and stages of the programme.
  • Optimise resource allocation within the projects, including facilitating the selection of team members for the programme and projects.
  • Capture and share learning across the business by leveraging CAP, OpEx, and LLM process.
  • Provide essential input for key business planning submissions such as ALR2, DPS, DPP and MTP.
  • Lead and develop your Programme Team, ensuring collaboration and continuous learning.

Who you are

At a minimum, you’ll hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field such as Engineering, Science or in another appropriate discipline.

You’ll be an experienced Project/Programme management expert, proficient in modern Project and Programme Management techniques including estimating, scheduling, risk, change control and Earned Value Analysis. Naturally, you’ll have demonstrable success in leading complex projects/Programmes of a strategic nature, ideally within a highly regulated, complex engineering industry.

You must have previous experience in managing successful programmes.

We are looking for someone keen to champion collaborative working and who can work with change and uncertainty with the support of a team.

Leadership experience is key, as you’ll be supporting, developing and leading a team of EDF Staff, Contractors and assigned functional support within a matrix organisation.

You’ll also bring working knowledge of the relevant health, safety and environment legislation.

Closing date for applications: Sunday 14th April
