Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has an exciting opportunity available for an Project and Plant Technician to join our team in Maidstone. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of GBP30,164 - GBP34,061 per annum.

Being an Project and Plant Technician at KFRS

At Kent Fire and Rescue Service we pride ourselves on being there for our customers across Kent and Medway whenever they need us. We work together, supporting one another to achieve this.

As a Project and Plant Technician you will be a vital part of that team. You will help to ensure that our plant and specialist vehicles are well maintained and ready at a moment's notice - helping to ensure our firefighters have what they need to respond to emergencies. This will involve both routine maintenance and emergency repairs. Working in our Fleet and Equipment Services Team, you will be trusted to work independently across our fire stations in Kent.

What you'll do

  • Conduct vehicle modifications
  • Ensure that all vehicles meet current legal requirements as per DVSA (Driver Vehicle Standards Agency)
  • Ensure the operational effectiveness of all vehicles and equipment
  • Complete and maintain relevant documents and electronic systems
  • Manage (including the administration) of parts stock levels held within their mobile workshop to ensure the role can be carried out effectively
  • Provide resilience to the primary Mobile Technician Team including the participation in an established standby/on call duty rota system during times of absence. This may also include the service and maintenance of ladders and breathing apparatus compressors
  • Oversee the co-ordination of maintenance associated with the Ashford single bay workshop
  • Contribute to the planning of day-to-day activities
  • Adhere to Health and Safety Regulations

What you'll bring

  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Workplace experience in routine inspection and repair of LGV, Plant and associated equipment
  • City and Guilds in Mechanics/Engineering at minimum level 2
  • Class C1 Driving licence
  • IRTEC licence
  • The ability to work on own initiative and plan your own workloads
  • Good IT skills in office applications and electronic management systems
