The Royal Academy of Music is the UK’s oldest conservatoire and a member college of the University of London. It has an international reputation for excellence, is rated top in many UK league tables for music education and teaches performance and composition at all HE levels.

The Academy houses a rich set of collections relating to many aspects of musical culture and performance. The Academy’s Library and archives house a wealth of documents relating to nineteenth-century musicians (including autograph materials from Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Sullivan and others); autograph musical materials by Purcell, Mendelssohn, Vaughan Williams and Sullivan, among others; performance materials formerly in the possession of great interpreters of the last century, notably Sir Henry Wood, Sir John Barbirolli, Sir Charles Mackerras, Lord Menuhin, Otto Klemperer and Robert Spencer; iconographic materials, programmes and a host of other rare bibliographic materials dating from the last 450 years.

A Project Cataloguer is required to carry out the cataloguing of scores, books, orchestral sets, early-printed / facsimile editions, and audio recordings, formerly belonging to the conductor Sir Charles Mackerras. Using your previous experience of cataloguing printed music and your understanding of cataloguing standards, you will create high-quality bibliographic records, to agreed targets and standards.  This is a fixed-term post for 12 months, part-time at three days per week (0.6 FTE, 19.5 hours per week) and fully onsite.

Completed applications must be received by 23.59 on Tuesday 27 February 2024.
Interviews are expected to take place on-site on Thursday 7 March 2024.

The Academy accepts applications from non-UK citizens who have the right to work in the UK.  Please note that the Academy is unable to provide a certificate of sponsorship for this role, as this role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker visa.

Enquiries or applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.

The Academy is committed to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of all students.
The Academy values diversity and welcomes your application.

We particularly welcome applications from black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, LGBTQ+ candidates, and candidates with disabilities because we would like to increase the representation of these groups in these roles. We want to do this because we know greater diversity will lead to greater results for students.
