We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Project Manager to join our team at Black Rock Specialist Firearms Training centre based in Portishead. Black Rock delivers firearms and related specialist training for firearms officers from a state of the art facility which renown across the UK and internationally. Blackrock is located in the commuter town of Portishead which offers great road links to the South West and Wales and the vibrant city of Bristol with many famous attractions and activities.
This is an exciting and rare opportunity to lead a project to identify and launch a new specialist firearms training facility in the South West. You will collaborate with key stakeholders across Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire police forces to ensure that the new facility site and location meets the needs and requirements for all stakeholders.
In this key role, you will utilise your project management experience to produce a comprehensive and detailed business case, identify risks, recommend potential solutions and see this plan through to implementation. You will need to be organised, a strong negotiator with innovative problem solving skills as well as a drive and passion for delivering successful outcomes. You will work within a small but supportive team alongside the Chief Firearms Instructor and Business Support Officer.
Main responsibilities of the role
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, timelines and milestones.
- Manage the project progress, resources, day to day management and prepare reports.
- Utilise business analysis, statistical data and other information to support evidenced based decision making.
- Taking mitigating action in response to risks and issues.
- Collaborate with the user community to ensure compliance with the project’s requirements and delivery.
- Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Experience and skills
- Experience in leading the design, implementation and delivery of significant change projects in complex environments.
- Experience of using and applying change management methodologies including techniques and methodologies, such as waterfall and / or agile approaches.
- Experience in building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders.
- Experience in managing and tracking resources and budgets.
- Excellent communicator, both in writing and verbally at all levels, with ability to present and articulate complex matters to a range of audiences.

This role is hybrid so you will be able to work from home at times but you will be required to attend a large number of meetings in person and regularly travel around the three force areas as required.

The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises.
