Project Manager - Nuclear

Your new company
You will be joining a large established consultancy who are looking to expand their Chorley office with a Project Manager to join the nuclear business. The company covers the full project life cycle, from initial front-end concept design, detailed design for manufacture and support to manufacturing, testing, installation and commissioning. The team's primary focus has been on the provision of mechanical and CE&I engineering design services for nuclear decommissioning. In recent years, the team has diversified into the defence and nuclear new build markets, working on projects of national strategic importance.
Your new role
You will be responsible for project management of one or several smaller projects (typical individual project value
- Ethics: Promoting the wider public good in all actions, acting in a morally, legally, and socially appropriate manner in dealings with stakeholders and members of design teams and the organisation.
- Determining the best means of satisfying requirements within the context of project objectives and constraints i.e., developing solutions.
- Preparing and maintaining schedules of activities and events, taking account of dependencies and resource requirements.
- Identifying and monitoring project risks (threats and opportunities), planning and implementing responses to them and responding to other issues that affect their projects.
- Developing, maintaining, and applying quality management processes for project activities and outputs.
- Ensuring appropriate contracts are in place and aligned with design governance.
- Ensuring appropriate change control mechanisms are in place aligned to Design governance.
- Establishing and maintaining governance arrangements for the delivery of projects, defining clear roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities, that align with organisational procedures & practice.
- Managing stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and interests.
What you\'ll need to succeed
- Between 5-10 years' experience in the field of project/programme management.
- Full Member of the Association for Project Management (APM) or equivalent APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ)
Delivered projects in the following project phases: Studies, Concept design, Preliminary design, Detailed design, Manufacturing/Construction/Test, and Commissioning. Managed projects for multiple clients. Managed projects with medium complexity schedules. Able to lead medium complexity contract negotiations e.g. NEC3. Carried out scope management and change control on medium size / complexity projects or groups of projects. Resource management on medium size / complexity projects or groups of projects. Earned value management on medium size / complexity projects or groups of projects. Risk, opportunity, and issue management on medium size / complexity projects or groups of projects. Track record of delivering medium complexity / risk projects in a regulated environment e.g., Managed resource typically a target price type arrangement, limited penalties, known client but unknown project team, where the company Design own some of the risk (i.e. design 'fit for purpose'), minimal client reporting, CEMAR controlled, medium duration, some stakeholder management, higher potential regulatory issues, some level of safety related design, some risk of reputational damage, potential risk to the environment, some security risk.
What you\'ll get in return
