National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager / Senior Bridges Engineer to join our Scheme Delivery – Operations team in the North West region. The Project Manager / Senior Bridges Engineer will plan and drive the delivery of a portfolio of bridges and highway structures projects within the Region’s rolling 5-year capital programme. Managing the performance of the project teams, multiple external contractors and consultants. Ensuring adherence to effective governance, quality assurance, health and safety, technical and specialist standards across the supply chain and National Highways to ensure successful delivery of agreed project outcomes and acting in line with mandatory and delegated responsibilities.
This is a unique opportunity for a Project Manager or experienced Engineer with a background in Bridges to join a team responsible for the development and delivery of bridge and highway structures projects.
What you’ll lead on
Manage the delivery of a portfolio of bridges related allocated projects within the Region’s rolling 5 year capital programme, across all stages of the project lifecycle, from design to construction and introduction into service.
Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the Regional Management Team, Programme Delivery managers, key stakeholders, suppliers, contractors and across National Highways teams, to ensure full mutual understanding of the portfolio’s strategic and delivery objectives, to drive and report on and review delivery performance, to agree solutions that resolve complex issues and to prepare project business cases.
Programme management, reporting and risk management against the capital expenditure budgets for all projects in scope, ensuring effective financial and contractual practices are in place and adhered to by all project resources.
To ensure compliance with relevant Health Safety and Environmental legislation, including CDM 2015 Regulations and ensuring third party partners (i.e. design Consultants and Framework Contractors) fulfil their duties on schemes.
Manage and evaluate risks, issues, dependencies and constraints associated with the bridges portfolio, leading the development and implementation of solutions to overcome these.
To be successful you will have
Knowledge and practical experience of Bridges and Highway Structures design, construction & maintenance practices.
Recognised qualification in a relevant engineering discipline or relevant experience in the delivery of Civil Engineering / Bridge & Highway Structures projects is desirable.
Proven project management experience of the delivery of Civil Engineering / Bridge & Highway Structures projects.
Experience of framework / contract management & administration of NEC.
High safety standards with knowledge and understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and extensive experience of customer and stakeholder consultation and engagement.
