About the team we are recruiting to

R&M is a service area within Coventry City Council which provides repair and maintenance services to Coventry City’s operational, commercial and school portfolio. We have a dedicated team with over 30 years’ experience of completing emergency and responsive repairs, planned preventative maintenance schedules and property improvements and refurbishments.
The R&M team is multi-disciplined providing building works, refurbishments, general maintenance, gas servicing, maintenance and installations, electrical works and a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year emergency call out service across all trades.
The service area aims to:
- Ensure that the all statutory compliance with industry standards, British standards and relevant Approved Codes of Practice are achieved.
- Repairs are carried out swiftly and to a high standard
- Projects are delivered on time and on budget

What is the job role?
The Multiskilled Apprentice will work alongside our Multiskilled Engineers to learn from them the skills and knowledge required to attain the required qualifications to work as an accredited Multiskilled Engineer.
The role will involve assisting and learning in the following,
- Door, window, lock, stair rail/parts installation and repairs.
- Pitched and flat roofs tiled, felt, slate and flashings.
- Plastering and floor screeding.
- Fire door & ironmongery inspection and repairs
- General bricklaying, walls, steps, ramp, adaptation works.
- Internal/external decorating, all wall coverings, and textured finishes.
- Disabled aid repair & servicing.
- Portable and fixed fire appliance inspection, service & repair.
You will be supported to undertake a Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative apprenticeship standard. This is a fixed-term contract opportunity for 24 months. This post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
You will be committed to achieving a Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative apprenticeship standard. You must be willing to work outside in all weathers, be reliable, punctual with good communication skills. Be able to work using your initiative as well as work in a team environment.
To be successful in this role you need:
- To attend college weekly.
- have a basic understanding of repairs and maintenance work.
- Have Good communication skills when taking information from people.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Ability to organise and work in a tidy, professional manner.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Computer literacy.
- Good numerical, logical, and analytical skills.
- Experience of using basic tools in a work/educational or home environment
- Maths and English GCSE 4/C or above (Or equivalent) or ability to complete Maths and English Functional Skills level 2 as part of an apprenticeship
- Ability to complete the Property Maintenance Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard.
- Current UK driving licence, eligible to hold or currently learning

* The pre-interview is a virtual short session to give candidates further details of the apprenticeship role and to help them understand what to expect and how to prepare for the final interview. You will also be given a link to complete a short diagnostic assessment to check the level of Maths and English that you are currently working at and identify any support you may require.
