Location: Stratford, London / hybrid working.
Salary: £43,824-£48,063, pro-rata, depending on experience.
Contract: Permanent: 4 days per week, 28 hours - can be flexible on days worked.
Refugee Council is seeking an experienced Prospecting Specialist to provide insight, research and strategy to support the engagement of current and new donors.
Refugee Council is a leading charity supporting refugees and people seeking asylum to rebuild their lives in safety here in the UK.  Providing practical, hands on support, their award winning services include welcoming refugees into local communities across the country, providing specialist children’s services – with a particular focus on refugee children who arrive here alone, helping people to navigate the asylum system, and supporting people to access housing and employment.  Evidence from services is then used to also inform the charity’s leading policy and influencing work, including campaigning for a fairer and kinder refugee protection system.  The charity works with more than 14,000 men, women and children every year.
As a result of growing need and increasing interest in Refugee Council’s work, the charity has ambitious plans to make a leap in impact, with investment in their Philanthropy Team to raise increased funds from key high value audiences.
The Prospect Research Manager will play a key role in supporting the Philanthropy Team and the wider Philanthropy & Partnerships Team to support the engagement of current supporters and in the creation of a prospecting strategy to engage new donors. The successful candidate will help lead the organisation’s transition to greater voluntary funding, supported by a passionate colleagues and engaged leadership. They will also advise and provide training for others in the Philanthropy & Partnerships Team with a view to supporting the development of high value and ultra-high value approaches and maximising support from trusts and foundations and corporate partnerships.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in Prospect Research, including identifying and prioritising prospects, network mapping, ethical screening and developing gift capacity ratings. They will also have a background in creating processes to capture activity in relationship management and of using and interrogating relational databases.  They will a good awareness of the current major gift, corporate, trust and foundation and the statutory landscape in the UK and wider economic trends. Finally they will have a flexible and creative approach to work, with an enquiring mind and confidence and persona to build excellent relationships with colleagues at all levels.
Refugee Council will provide the most moving and diverse case for support. Cases that encompass innovative external affairs campaigns aimed at engaging policy makers and the public. The charity knows that step change takes time and planning, and they have put together a plan for growth that is ambitious but is also realistic and allows time for development and engagement. This plan also includes recruiting prospecting, stewardship, and communications expertise, so that growth is supported, planned and achievable.
