The Role
An exciting position is now available at our Edinburgh site to help further our protein drug discovery efforts.
Working as part of the Protein Sciences team, the successful candidate will support our programmes developing novel targeted protein therapeutics, with a focus on engineered proteins and protein-drug conjugates for oncology indications. Primary responsibilities include the cloning, expression and engineering of recombinant proteins and the characterisation and analysis of proteins using a variety of analytical, biochemical and biophysical techniques. The successful candidate will be able to work independently on several concurrent projects in a fast-paced goal-oriented setting with minimal supervision and have the flexibility to learn new techniques according to projects need. Furthermore, you will efficiently contribute to the maintenance of a functional laboratory, technical equipment and tools, as required for best practice and in-line with HSE guidelines. The aim is to develop the next generation of protein-based therapeutics to provide improved patient benefit.
The role will involve close interaction with our colleagues in cancer biology and medicinal chemistry at our Belfast site and with our bioinformatics group based in Manchester. Prior experience in industry and / or the development of protein therapeutics or antibody-drug-conjugates would be beneficial but is not a requirement.

Candidate Specification
Essential Criteria
- PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, or another relevant life science discipline (significant, relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of PhD at Scientist level).
- Experimental knowledge and hands-on expertise in the cloning, expression, and purification of recombinant proteins.
- Expertise in the analysis and characterisation of recombinant proteins using analytical, biochemical, and / or biophysical techniques.
- Experience of working collaboratively in a high paced scientific environment with the ability to think independently and creatively.
Desirable Criteria
(The following criteria may be applied if a large pool of applicants exists)
- Additional academic or industrial experience in Protein Chemistry or molecular or structural biology or another relevant discipline.
- Knowledge or experience in protein engineering, protein modification or protein bioconjugation.
- Experience in the development of protein / antibody therapeutics or antibody / protein drug conjugates.
- Knowledge of protein display technologies.
- Knowledge and experience of targeted protein degradation and PROTAC based therapeutics.
