As a key player in the European market, our client is seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join their team as a Purchasing Manager in Barnsley in a permanent position. This role is pivotal within the company, offering significant international opportunities and a chance to contribute to our continued success.
As the Purchasing Manager, you will lead and manage the procurement team and processes to ensure the efficient and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services. Collaborating with European partners, you will contribute to delivering a competitive range of energy storage solutions, furthering the company's rapid growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor stock levels and identify purchasing requirements.
- Update internal databases with order details (dates, suppliers, quantities, discounts).
- Ensure timely delivery of materials at agreed prices and within specifications.
- Conduct competitive purchases, benchmarking, and negotiating to achieve cost savings.
- Maintain regular contact with the Operations team to minimize issues impacting customer requirements.
- Foster relationships with key suppliers, resolving problems, implementing improvements, and maintaining service levels.
- Keep records of invoices and purchase orders up-to-date.
- Ensure prompt return of unfit stock to the supplier.
- Identify areas for improvement to drive performance and business results.
- Manage overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of procurement.
- Seek and propose new products and suppliers, optimizing commercial arrangements.
- Maintain MRP data related to stock levels and quality standards, minimizing operational expenses.
Requirements:
- Proficient in Excel (Vlookup, filtering, formatting, data management).
- Understanding of budget control and management.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strategic thinking with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Proven track record of cost optimisation, consolidating stock, and reducing freight costs.
- Negotiation skills for securing favourable terms with suppliers.
- Competent and confident working in a finance team and interacting with the wider business.
- Effective and honest communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently.
- Strong organisational skills.
- High degree of computer literacy, particularly advanced Excel skills.
- Regularly review working practices and processes, identifying and implementing improvement initiatives throughout the Supply Chain function.
