Job Description
Position Summary:
To lead a diverse QC Department (Chemistry and Microbiology) of approx 60 people, ensuring the high quality and on time execution of raw material, in-process testing, product release, stability testing, analytical method validation and microbiological support to the site.
Responsibilities:
- To lead all aspects of the day to day management of the QC Chemistry and Microbiology Departments
- To run performance, appraise, set and assess objectives for your direct reports, whilst ensuring they remain motivated. Ensure your team follow company procedures and that the teams within your department are being appropriately led.
- To ensure that all members of QC Chemistry and Microbiology are adequately trained for the role they are performing and to ensure that training records are maintained for the department.
- To deliver RFT and OTD targets and deliver all departmental KPI targets within the identified timeframe
- To lead the stability programme, reserve sample storage and cleaning validation programme, and the validation of laboratory equipment and testing methods.
- To write, review and approve technical documentation within the department.
- To maintain a thorough understanding of international cGMP, and regulatory requirements pertinent to the department and to ensure that all work within the department aligns with these and with departmental procedures.
- To ensure that all tasks are carried out in an effective and efficient manner by ensuring full utilization of all staff. To plan adequate resource for the department to ensure compliance with regulatory, cGMP’s, site procedures, corporate and client requirements, including lead times.
- To assure quality problem solving, ensuring GMP compliant and pragmatic solutions are in place, whilst driving continuous improvement
- To communicate effectively with others on-site and throughout the corporation by representing the Swindon QC Department
- To lead introduction of new products, working with the client and Technical Transfer team
- Ensures continuous readiness and support for health authority inspections, client audits and internal inspections.
- To perform any other tasks which may be required from time to time.

- To complete People Management tasks for your team including, but not limited to: attracting and selecting new diverse talent, onboarding and training, setting clear goals and performance expectations, providing open, timely and actionable feedback, conducting appraisals and development discussions.

EH&S:
- Understand emergency procedures and align with safe systems of work.
- Ensure compliance with environment, health and safety and security policies and procedures, rules, signage and instructions at all times
- Ensure prompt reporting and investigation of all accidents, near misses and breaches of rules
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
Experience:
- Degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Pharmacy, life sciences or a related field
- Extensive demonstrated expertise in analytical chemistry in a QC environment.
- In depth knowledge of cGMP.
- Experience of leading, supervising and motivating a team
- You will be proactive in your approach and have the ability to lead your team and their workload, priorities and actively engage in their development.
