About the Role
The Quality Control Inspector (QCI) is a vital member of the Engineering and Compliance Team, trusted in the provision of Quality Control and Procedural Compliance, in support to the UK Submarine Strategic Weapons System (SWS) Program.
Accountable to the Engineering Compliance Manager, you will be required provide support to SWS Missile and Launcher facility activities at RNAD Coulport, including Handling Operations, to ensure Trident SWS Engineering and Quality standards are achieved on all Flight Hardware and Support Equipment.
Ensure all Quality Assurance inspection operations and activities within the Trident system are carried out in strict accordance with approved documentation, mandatory safety and acceptance standards.
The QCI is accountable to the Engineer and Line Manager for ensuring that tasks detailed are performed in an effective and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand and apply responsibilities with regard to the Company’s Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards
- Ensure compliance with approved procedures, MoD instructions and publications
- Comply with the Depot Emergency Procedures, Safety and Security Orders, ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel
- Perform direct inspection tasks applicable to the Trident weapon system, handling equipment and associated support equipment and sentence items accordingly using relevant accept/reject criteria
- Verify processing documentation is complete and adequate for the task prior to commencement and to ensure that all activities within the process are performed in accordance with approved procedures and all “accept/reject” points have been recorded as required by relevant procedures
- Become conversant with, and to work relevant Local Work Instructions appertaining to their area of responsibility Highlight discrepant conditions arising during inspection and processing activities, by raising issues to supervisor or raising inspection/rejection forms tagging items in accordance with the local instructions
- Carry out receipt inspection on Consumable Shelf/Limited Life items received in Processing/Maintenance Facilities, in accordance with laid down Local Work Instructions and Source Documentation
Required skills, qualifications and experience
- Apprenticeship or higher level qualification in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline
- Hands-on Mechanical / Electrical Engineering background and experience
- Must be able to work as a team member.
- Have good communicating and influencing skills.
- Able to analyse and use evidence in decision making.
- Able to adapt to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
- Experience in a Quality Control Inspection role
- SWS (Strategic Weapon Systems) Missile, Launcher or related systems experience
- City & Guilds Level 2 Award in F Gas and ODS Regulations: Category 1 (training provided if not already held)
- Dye Penetrant Level 2 Inspection Qualification. (training provided if not already held)
