Quality Engineer on a Fixed-Term Contract for 12 months.

James Walker and Co Limited is looking to recruit an experienced Quality Engineer to join our Quality Team at our Manufacturing Business Unit in Cockermouth, Cumbria.

The purpose of this role is to support the company in its achievement of strategic objectives through the provision of a technically strong Quality support function, involving both assurance and control aspects. You will be involved in projects and day to day support of both internal and external customers/suppliers. There will be an emphasis on the reduction of defects through rational improvement and adherence to established process controls.

You will be expected to work in a pressurised environment whilst meeting tight deadlines and be able to demonstrate that you can make a positive contribution to the Quality and wider James Walker team.

Main duties of this role will include, but not limited to:

· Continual improvement of the Quality Management System, ensuring key processes, procedures and documentation are in place to comply with national, industry and customer specific standards.

· To fully support, both the customer and accreditation body audits as well as coordinating any resulting CAPA’s.

· Handling various enquiries in relation to quality related matters from internal and external stakeholders and support customer and supplier visits as necessary.

· Maintain, improve and drive forward shop floor processes by promoting and enforcing compliance.

· Represent the Quality department at internal and off site meetings as required, may include supplier audits.

· Liaise with other departments for example Technical and Operations to ensure delivery of conforming products to our Customers.

· Supporting audits, internal and external.

· Lead problem solving and continuous improvement activity.

· Produce and deliver training materials.

· Develop and maintain relationships with key customers, suppliers and approval authorities.

· Provide support to the wider Quality team as required.

· Provide support to the wider James Walker team as required.

The successful candidate must have:

· Proven experience of working in a Quality environment.

· Solid understanding of Quality Management Systems.

· Proficient in the use of quality core tools around APQP and 8D.

· Knowledge of AS9100, ISO9001 and Lean Sigma tools would be an advantage.

· Qualified to Degree standard (2:2 Hons Level and above) in an Engineering or related engineering discipline.

· A resilient approach and go the extra mile to improve standards and performance.

· A strong customer focus attitude.

· Excellent communication and leadership skills along with the ability to build great relationships.

· The willingness and enthusiasm to embrace change look at new ways of working and support continuous improvement initiatives and projects.

· Good IT Skills and proficient in all Microsoft Applications.
