Quality Manager

Are you an experienced Quality Manager? Able to drive improved GMP audits? Hold a Level 3 HACCP & Food safety qualification?


Major Recruitment are working in unison with our prestigious client, one of the countries well-established and leading suppliers of quality meat products. Based in Telford, Shropshire, our client manufacture and distribute only the highest quality beef to foodservice professionals, wholesalers, and retailers across the UK and internationally.

Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Manager to join their team and take on the responsibility to ensure the highest standards quality are consistently achieved within the food production and factory areas, ensuring health and food safety legal compliance and GMP standards are adhered to. You will be responsible for leading and motivating the Quality Assurance team in monitoring and evaluating product and processing systems. Your main accountabilities will include understanding and applying relevant standards so that Customer and Legal requirements are achieved and maintained.

Key Responsibilities of a Quality Manager:

  • To ensure that the requirements of HACCP are implemented, maintained, and achieved.
  • Involvement in the evaluation of risks and defining controls, prior to the introduction of a new process, product, or raw material.
  • Understands, implement and review quality management systems associated with the production of food to the agreed safety and quality standards.
  • Implement, maintain, and review an audit system to ensure that critical procedures for product safety, legality and quality are in place and complied with.
  • Supports the Technical Manager & the business with management of audits, hosting audits as appropriate. Manages response & close out of non-conformance reports from audits as required.
  • Effectively communicates with internal and external customers suppliers and production teams to ensure all the technical needs of the business are met.
  • Deputise for the Technical Manager in their absence
  • Manages the training & development requirements of the Quality team and ensures that direct reports are properly equipped to undertake their roles.
  • Manage the QA team & is responsible for its activity. Recruit and retain the right calibre of people. Lead, motivate and inspire the Quality
  • Generate technical business KPI information, communicate, trends and highlight issues.
  • Develop and agree action plans and through Continuous Improvement drive the business forward.
  • Provides practical support and drive to promote a Quality Assurance culture in the Business.
  • Ensures that a safe working environment exists for all employees within the QA team and that as a minimum the standards set out in the H&S manual are met.
  • Establishing and enforcing the company's quality standards, ensuring every product meets the renowned Quality Standard.
  • Leading and overseeing the quality function on the factory floor, dedicating your time to maintaining exceptional quality throughout the production process.
  • Investigating non-conformities in raw materials and product quality, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
  • Managing the complaint management system and conducting thorough investigations to provide insightful reports on products.
  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive Quality Plan, aligning it with the company's quality objectives.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to address concerns, identify training needs for production teams, and foster a culture of quality awareness.
  • Assisting with internal audits and ensuring compliance with food safety requirements
  • Drive the Quality Culture Improvement Plan

Skilled required to be a successful Quality Manager:

  • Food or Science degree
  • Level 3 and above in HACCP, Food safety and other relevant qualifications
  • A solid understanding of Beef / meat manufacturing and production processes.
  • Experience managing quality functions in fast-paced environments.
  • Familiarity with BRCGS standards, HACCP, Food Legislation, and Food Hygiene
  • Superb attention to detail and an innate ability to identify quality defects.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey quality standards and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • A problem-solving mindset with a hands-on approach to addressing challenges.
  • Proficiency in working efficiently in a busy and noisy manufacturing environment.
  • A strong desire to learn and adopt new skills and industry best practice.
