The Role
Due to continued growth an opportunity has arisen within Metro and Rail Projects (MRP) for a Quantity Surveyor.
Metro and Rail Projects (MRP) have extensive experience of working on high profile projects for most of the UK’s light rail and tram operators and on the UK heavy rail network. We are recognised as a market leader for the provision of renewal and minor enhancements services to the light rail sector and as a supplier of choice to the wider rail market.
Our specialist teams continue to offer high quality track construction, maintenance and renewals to a wide range of clients including: Nottingham Express Transit, Manchester Metrolink, Sheffield Supertram, and London Tramlink as well as a number of Major Contractors on the heavy rail network
Job Summary
This role will involve:
- Production of monthly accounting, costing, contract, management and financial information on a timely basis for inclusion in the monthly accounts package.
- Assisting with all Pre Contract commercial deliverables including compilation of estimates and pricing schedules to the required business standards in order to secure.
- Working closely with the operational parts of the business in the submission of bids for new works.
- Analysis of Contractual terms and conditions for Main Contracts and Subcontracts and identify measures for risk mitigation.
- Attendance at pre Tender meeting with clients and stakeholders.
- Briefing the Project Manager on the bill of quantities, specification and contractual implications of ongoing and new projects.
- The monitoring of costs against tender/contract specifications and Advising the Commercial Manager immediately of any major problem areas.
- Liaison with Clients giving and receiving costing information with regard to ongoing contracts, notifying clients using the appropriate methods of any variations to cost or specification and gaining the relevant authorisation. Raising any variation orders or claims as appropriate. Ensure timely collection of cash.
- Producing clear and concise calculations and measurements.
- To collate appropriate levels and range of departmental performance based reporting and associated information.
- Preparation and delivery of monthly reports and key performance indicators to their Line Manager.
Job Requirements
You will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach and have experience of managing fluctuating workloads, working under pressure, meeting tight deadlines and working off your own initiative. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
To be considered for this role you must have:
- The successful candidate will have gained extensive experience in the role of Quantity Surveyor within a rail contracting environment.
- Must have Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a commercial environment preferably within the Rail/Construction industry.
- Proven and significant experience in a commercial Preferably within a Rail/Construction related industry.
- Computer literate and working knowledge in Microsoft office.
- Previous experience of COINs would be advantageous.

This is a site based role, travel is essential.
