Johnston Quarry Group (“JQG”) is a specialist quarried materials supplier producing construction aggregates and premium quality building stone, as well as agricultural lime for soil improvement. Its aggregate products are typically used in infrastructure projects, with its unique Cotswold’s Ironstone and Bath Stone used in specified high end housing applications. The business operates Eight quarries and two separate processing sites located across the Southwest, Oxfordshire and Lincolnshire.
JQG became part of the SigmaRoc plc group in January 2022 and has quickly integrated with existing UK operations. There are exciting plans post acquisition to increase turnover, through increasing profitability, business efficacy and organic growth going forward.
Role
The role of Quarry Operative is to aid in the excavation, development and sale of materials from within our Cotswold quarries located predominantly close to Temple Guiting. Based primarily at Guiting Quarry in Upper Coscombe the role of Quarry Operative will be to safely operator multiple machines including excavator, loading shovel, JCB and dump truck in order to aid in the extraction and sale of dimensional block as well as production of crushed stone aggregate and agricultural lime.
Working independently at times and following site health & safety procedures and policies the Operative will be required to undertake general maintenance tasks during the course of their duties to enable equipment to operate efficiently.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Operate machinery as per site rules
- Comply with health and safety procedures and policies
- Undertake basic maintenance tasks as necessary
- Maintain quality of products and customer services where required
Skills & Experience
- 5 years as machine operator
- Worked within a Quarrying environment previously
- Knowledge of crushing and screening activities
- Ability to operate multiple machines
- Willingness to work overtime (If necessary including occasional weekend)
- Valid competency cards (CPCS or MPQC preferred)

Working times are from 07:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday with 0.5 hour unpaid break and 0.5 hour paid break.
Rate: £15.75/hr, Overtime rate at 1.25x OR (Ordinary Rate)
Overtime maybe required on an ad hoc basis
21 days of holiday a year plus bank holidays.
