What will the successful candidate be doing:

We are looking for Safety Specialists in Radiological Protection to provide expert level safety advice and leadership support to Sellafield ltd, enabling long term delivery of the mission whilst meeting legislative and regulatory requirements.
This role will focus on the development, implementation, and assurance of appropriate health and safety policies, procedures, and programme through proactive management of both internal and external stakeholders, communication, and engagement.
Responsibilities include:
• Maintain an expert knowledge and understanding of applicable EHS legislation relevant to Radiological Protection, standards and underlying principles within a discipline in order to develop appropriate company policies and procedures.
• Act as the company Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a Radiation Protection topic area, (e.g. RPA, Dosimetry, RPI, Carriage of Dangerous Goods) and to provide authoritative technical advice to the business.
• Undertake benchmarking activities and maintain links to relevant internal and external groups to ensure that the business has access to the best available knowledge and experience in order to identify, develop and facilitate the implementation of radiological protection improvements. Role holder will represent Sellafield Ltd at national and international meetings and forums (where required).
• Undertake assurance activities and monitor / review site Radiological Protection performance in their area of expertise in order to identify significant issues and advise stakeholders on corrective actions needed in order to improve performance.
• Ensure accurate reporting of EHS issues, trending and analysis of condition reports, and investigation of incidents and events to ensure that appropriate corrective actions are identified and taken, and that learning opportunities identified and shared.
• Advise stakeholders on competency requirements needed by the business, and to support the Heads of Profession in the assessment of that competency.
• Lead/support the investigation of significant incidents and events with a complex technical or site-wide dimension.
• Lead by example, championing best practice by directing, coaching and encouraging others to demonstrate appropriate EHS behaviours and promote a positive EHS culture in line with Sellafield Ltd standards and expectations.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills:
• A current RPA2000 Certificate of Competence
• Practical experience of advising or enforcing Radiation Protection legislation within large or high hazard organisations.
• Chartered member of an appropriate professional body (e.g. SRP).
• Drive, enthusiasm and self-motivation in the delivery of improvements
• Good communication and influencing skills with internal stakeholders
• Customer focussed
• Ability to manage external stakeholders and regulators (e.g. ONR or HSE)
• Ability to prioritise and plan work.
Desirable Skills:
• Experience of setting standards for Radiation Protection across a range of design, construction, operation, and decommissioning hazards
• Experience of advising on Radiation Protection aspects across a range of design, construction, operation, and decommissioning hazards
• Appreciation of Safety Management Systems and ISO45001 standards
• Demonstrable record of influencing change and improving safety performance of an organisation.
• Experience of Health and Safety Enforcement in a regulatory capacity.
