AWE currently have excellent opportunities for Radiation Protection Technician to join our Materials and Analytical Science group, bringing their experience to AWE and to successfully play a key role delivering for our customers.
The Radiation Protection and Dosimetry Group are responsible for providing legal and technical advice to a range of internal and external customers regarding health and safety in relation to radioactive materials and other sources of ionising radiation. No other organisation in the UK provides Radiation Protection advice across the same range of applications and customers, from plutonium manufacturing facilities to forensic laboratories, from some of the most powerful X-ray machines in the world to national security operations.
Radiation Protection Technician
Salary: £21,460 - £24,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

We are looking to recruit a Radiation Protection Technician to join our team. A career in Radiation Protection is an excellent choice for someone who wishes to use their practical, scientific and technical knowledge and skills in a multi-disciplinary environment that involves both office-based and practical elements and where the ability to communicate with people from a wide range of backgrounds is essential.
Internal training will be provided, including placements within the AWE Approved Dosimetry Service and assessment to achieve the required knowledge, experience and skills are achieved for the role ensuring that we develop world class professionals.
Following successful completion of the training scheme the role will focus on both internal and external dosimetry in delivering AWE Approved Dosimetry Services to employees and contractors, that includes:
  • Preparing and issuing sample containers during normal working hours
  • Maintaining stock levels
  • Updating, transcribing and archiving of dosimetry records
  • Responding to collection requests and bioassay queries
  • Tracking samples though the bio-assay labs using bespoke software.
  • Identifying missing samples and taking appropriate actions including following up non/late returns.
  • Supporting other Radiation Protection & Dosimetry Group or AWE Approved Dosimetry Service teams/projects
  • The Company may require you to fulfil any other reasonable duties aligned to your position from time to time in line with business needs.

The role will also provide development opportunities to become a member of the Society of Radiation Protection or other relevant professional bodies.
All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. Also, should the need arise, be willing and able to work in designated areas.
