A vacancy has arisen in the Business Rates Team. Cardiff Council annually collects around £170m in business rates from around 13,000 businesses in Cardiff. The team also collects a Business Improvement District levy from businesses based in and around the City Centre.
About the job
This is a senior post in the Business Rates Team. This is a small team which is based in County Hall. Hybrid working is offered, and you will be required to attend the office two days per week. You will be expected to attend magistrates’ court hearings for the purpose of obtaining liability orders several times each year.
The post holder will be expected to ensure that the billing database is accurate and balances to the Valuation List. You will assess liability to pay rates and assist with the prompt issue of bills and the collection of the rates due. You will be expected to deal with complex enquiries from ratepayers both by email and telephone.
What We Are Looking For From You
You must have experience of working in a local taxation environment and candidates must demonstrate an organised and methodical approach to work. You should have experience of working in a busy, customer facing role and be confident in engaging with customers.
Effective interpersonal skills are essential due to the range of individuals and organisations that you will interact with.
