R&D Workshop Engineer 2

With a track record of innovation and development, Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge glucose monitoring systems and test strips for use in both home and hospital settings. We have a Global Centre of Excellence for Medical Devices based in Witney, Oxfordshire. The site manufactures significant quantities of test strips annually and has also been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the next generation FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System, launched in September 2014. We currently have an opportunity for a Workshop Engineer to join our Research and Development Engineering team. In this role, you will play a key part in the production of bespoke / one-off parts used within our manufacturing and testing departments. You will support in the development and production of Jigs and fixtures, as well as general machinery parts that feed our bespoke equipment involved in the production and testing of the test strips and glucose sensors.
To be successful, you will be an Apprentice trained Mechanical Engineer, with a strong background in precision engineering. You will bring skills in both manual and CNC machining (ability to programme, set and operate), and ideally be familiar with the use of welding (MIG & TIG) and spark eroding equipment. You will be used to working to tight tolerances, and be comfortable in independently producing one off parts to drawing.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual who takes initiative and is able to work within a small team, but interact on a wider business scale. You will need to have excellent communication and time management skills, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment.
