Sarum Hall School is a busy and exciting, non-selective Preparatory School for girls aged 3 -11. We are located on the Hampstead/Belsize Park border in North London. Our award-winning, purpose-built premises are easily accessible from London mainline stations and close to a number of underground stations. Educating just under 200 girls, our School combines a wide range of opportunities inside and outside the classroom, with a strong academic foundation. The School is consistently at capacity and is oversubscribed year-on-year. Excellent teaching and learning, as well as a wide range of cocurricular provisions, is supported by strong and secure finances. There has been significant investment into the School in recent years, with further development high on the Governors’ agenda. The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team as a Receptionist and First Aid Lead.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of our pupils, while also managing receptionist duties.
The chosen candidate will have excellent organisation and communication skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively and maintain confidentiality.
The candidate must be a proficient user of the Microsoft suite. The post will also require the ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with people, good interpersonal skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Main duties & responsibilities
Administrative duties
- Working as part of a small, strong and friendly office team, you will: Greet visitors, including parents and delivery personnel, and assist them as needed.
- Monitor and respond to the door buzzer, granting access to authorised individuals.
- Answer phone calls, respond to enquiries, and relay messages to appropriate staff members.
- Accept and organise deliveries, ensuring they reach the appropriate recipients in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with school administration and healthcare professionals to promote a safe and healthy environment for all pupils and staff.
- Providing support at school events such as parents evenings, open days, and special events.
- Assist other members of staff with administrative tasks where required.
First Aid duties
- Provide day-to-day medical care for pupils, from bumps and bruises to administration of medication.
- Implement and maintain arrangements for first-aid provision to comply with statutory, regulatory and school policy requirements.
- Ensure that parents/carers are provided with full updates on any changes to their daughter’s health whilst at school.
- Prepare and maintain medical kits for the playground and school trips.
- Liaise with relevant staff regarding health, safety and hygiene matters (including toilets).
- Liaise with Admissions Coordinator to ensure that the relevant medical forms are completed by parents and carers for new pupils.
- Ensure relevant follow up is undertaken if required.
- Keep accurate records of allergies, medical conditions, and medication administration.
- Organise and maintain First Aid records, ensuring they are up-to-date and easily accessible.
- Stock and maintain supplies in the medical room, ensuring availability of necessary items.
- Ensure school medical policies and procedures are implemented and followed.
- Advise the school community on health issues affecting the whole School, including outbreaks of communicable diseases and head lice.
- Co-ordinate sight and hearing tests in school.
Other Professional Responsibilities
- Attend staff meetings and INSET days Communicate effectively with the Senior Leadership Team (Head, Deputy, Deputy Head Academic & Innovation, Bursar, DSL), staff, parents and pupils.
- Keep abreast of best practice and developments in First Aid by attending courses and reading relevant journals.
- Disseminate relevant information to staff on courses attended and current initiatives.
- Ensure that Health and Safety at Work regulations are adhered to both personally and on behalf of the School.
- Work closely and effectively with other support staff and cover duties where necessary
Pastoral Duties
- Always treat the pupils in an encouraging and positive way.
- Be aware of a child’s home circumstances and always apply diplomacy and a positive approach in dealings with parents.
- Observe and be aware of children who may have social, physical or learning disabilities and alert the SENDCo and the Head.
- Create a warm, caring environment in which children can grow socially, emotionally and intellectually.
